TEL AVIV, Israel (Ma'an) -- Israeli police on Tuesday arrested a 50-year-old man on suspicion of an acid attack on a teenage girl in Nazareth, Israeli media reported.
Police told the news site Ynet that the man is suspected of throwing acid in the 16-year-old's face because she refused to marry one of his relatives.
The girl is being treated at Haifa's Rambam Medical Center.
A hospital spokeswoman told Ma'an the teenager was unconscious but in a stable condition. It is too early to assess the permanent damage caused in the attack, but the victim is at risk of losing her eyesight, the spokeswoman said.
An Israeli police spokesman could not be reached for comment.
