TEL AVIV, Israel (Ma'an) -- Israeli police on Tuesday arrested a 50-year-old man on suspicion of an acid attack on a teenage girl in Nazareth, Israeli media reported.

Police told the news site Ynet that the man is suspected of throwing acid in the 16-year-old's face because she refused to marry one of his relatives.

The girl is being treated at Haifa's Rambam Medical Center.

A hospital spokeswoman told Ma'an the teenager was unconscious but in a stable condition. It is too early to assess the permanent damage caused in the attack, but the victim is at risk of losing her eyesight, the spokeswoman said.

An Israeli police spokesman could not be reached for comment.

Palestinian people are loving and kind. Acts like these are condemned by all and whoever perpetrated this criminal act should be prosecuted to the extend of the law. We live in the 21 st. century and women , must have the right to marry who they choose. I understand this is a frindge of conservative segemnt of Palestinian society but should be opposed in every sense of the word. An educated and free woman , is not just an asset to society , but the educator for her whole family.

I do not believe in an "eye for an eye" but in this case I wish him as much pain as she will have the rest of her life.

And when you find out that the perpetrator was Jewish, what will you say then? Oh, well, she should not have been so disrespectful. Right?
