NABLUS (Ma'an) -- Hundreds of Jewish worshipers accompanied by Israeli troops visited Joseph's tomb in Nablus in the northern West Bank overnight Wednesday, leading to clashes with locals, witnesses said.

Israel forces escorted over 10 buses of Israeli worshipers through eastern Nablus, near Balata refugee camp, locals told Ma'an, leading to clashes near the camp as Israeli troops fired tear gas at Palestinian youth.

The Jewish worshipers left at around 2.30 a.m., and Israeli troops raided several neighborhoods in the area, locals said.

No injuries were reported.

An Israeli military spokeswoman told Ma'an there was a "coordinated entry" of visitors to the tomb, and that Palestinians hurled rocks at security forces.

Jews believe the tomb is the final resting place of the biblical figure Joseph. Muslims believe that an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Yusef (Joseph) Dawiqat, was buried there.

'Jews believe the tomb is the final resting place of the biblical figure Joseph.' Some small children believe Santa Claus lives at the North Pole. However, the available evidence suggests that is unlikely.
