JENIN (Ma’an) – Israeli authorities on Thursday released detainee Yousef Shaban from Anin village in Jenin, after he went on hunger strike for 63 days and stopped when his health deteriorated.

Yousef told Ma’an that he was released after 90 days of administrative detention.

The ex-prisoner said in an interview with Ma'an that he threatened Israeli authorities to go on another hunger strike if they didn't release him.

“The food strike was terrible, my kidney got infected and my legs were swelled so I couldn’t walk. I used to move using the wheel chair,” said Yousef.

“At first when I started my strike I used to drink water only but later I was so tired and pail so I mixed sugar with water to continue my strike and gain my needs,” he said.

"I threatened them if they didn’t release me after my 90 days detention I will go under another deadly food strike but I got released today,” said Yousef.

He pointed that Israel makes many efforts in prison to break the strike and their officers eat regularly in front of strikers to harm their resolve and break their stamina.

He added that all strikers are in a difficult situation and bad conditions but they have very high spirits.

“The situation at all the Israeli detention centers is on fire and detainees may explode at any time especially if they knew that any of the strikers got seriously affected,” Yousef said.

He send a message to all Palestinians to continue their solidarity campaigns and never leave detainees and their struggle.
