Palestinian prisoner dies in Israeli jail, PA official says

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian prisoner held in Israel's Megido Prison died on Saturday, a Palestinian Authority official said.

PA Minister of Detainees Issa Qaraqe identified the victim as Arafat Jaradat, 30, from the Hebron village of Sair.

Israeli media had earlier reported that Jaradat suffered a cardiac arrest and prison staff tried to revive him to no avail.

Qaraqe told Ma'an that he holds the Israeli government responsible for Jaradat's death and demanded an immediate inquiry into the circumstances behind his death.

Jaradat was arrested this week, Qaraqe added, and was not involved in ongoing hunger strike action by Palestinian prisoners.

A spokeswoman for the Israel Prison Service did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

Don't trust the Israeli's version. Palestinains should carry out their own autopsy to determine the actual cause of death. Israeli's are capable of anything.

I agree with AKeenReader. The Palestinian should overcome this cultural taboo against autopsies. They are not the mutilation of a person , they are a forensic science to determine , in a very respectful way , the truth about the cause of death. For example Suha Arafat refused an autopsy on the late leader. years later she realized her mistake and a late evidence gathering exhumation occured. Especialy after the Zygier incident..Noone should trust the lyin IDF or Israeli government in general.

according to Al Haq, Arafat Jaradat was arrested Feb 18, and though he had NO prior health problems, he died from a heart attack DURING interrogation or very shortly thereafter. in other words, izrael MURDERED HIM by torturing him TO DEATH.

To JoeUSA #3: 'The Palestinian should overcome this cultural taboo against autopsies.' Maybe. On the other hand, isn't it a mugs' game to enter into the Israeli round of 'investigations,' filing complaints, going to 'court,' etc? Israel merely uses all this as a fig leaf to give their actions the appearance of legitimacy. If the rulings aren't what they want, they just ignore them. To participate in all that is to help them with their project.
