Official: Israel to transfer tax revenues to PA on Monday

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israel has officially notified the Palestinian Authority that it will transfer Palestinian tax revenues on Monday, a PA official said Sunday.

Ahmad al-Hilou, director of custom taxes and VAT, told Ma'an that the funds were supposed to be transferred on Feb. 5.

Israel has withheld funds it collects on behalf of the PA since the UN voted to admit Palestine as a non-member state in November, but said it would release $100 million to the PA in January under international pressure.

Amid outrage in Palestine over the death of 30-year-old Arafat Jaradat in Israeli custody on Saturday, Israel said it would proceed with the transfer as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded the PA calm mass protests in the West Bank.

Al-Hilou said Israel owed the PA around 425 million shekels ($114.7 million) in December tax revenue. He said Israel was expected to deduct some of the funds to pay outstanding bills to Israel's Electric Corporation which supplies power to the West Bank.

A joint Israeli-Palestinian financial committee is due to meet on Feb. 28 to discuss the transfer of January tax revenues, he added.

According to Maan:
- "Palestinian Authority supports escalating popular resistance," and
- "Israel is to transfer tax revenues to PA on Monday,"
which seems illogical to an extreme, since IF both are true,
THEN Israel is paying to encourage throwing stones at it's own civilians,
and likely much worse, since a Palestinian definition of "popular resistance includes the murder of Jewish civilians, including men, women, children, and even babies (like the Fogel family in Itamar) !!!

why Monday? why not straight away? And #1 -read about the Israeli murder of Palestinian citizens "and even babies" and write about them - be a but more balanced. Balance? What a joke. You people are really good at "look what they did and ignore what we did" BS.

#2 No coincidences about it. Israel wants the uprising in Palestine to stop. So they figure that if they can bribe the PA, the PA will send out its foot soldiers to cool down the civilians. Only, the PA has already instructed its officials not to get involved and instead to let the people vent since they have every right to do so.This is nothing more than an attempt to blackmail the Palestinians into obeying the "laws" of the occupiers. However, this money isn't a gift. It's Legally Palestine's.

#5) No Rami, its not legally Palestine's. Israel acting as tax collector for the PA was part of the Oslo accords. That's the agreement your leadership tore up a while ago, but still seem to think applies to Israel. And until your leadership decides to fulfill its obligations under those accords, Israel is under no legal obligation to give you anything. So in all fairness, you should be thanking Bini for being such a generous guy. If you were dealing with my government, you would get sweet FA !
