RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- President Mahmoud Abbas said Tuesday that the issue of prisoners and releasing them is the central issue of the Palestinian people and its leadership.

He insisted there would not be peace with Israel side without releasing prisoners.

Abbas’ remarks came at a reception with prisoners advocates at his residence in Ramallah, where he affirmed that the leadership was doing its best to save the lives of hunger strikers and end their suffering.

He said talks were ongoing with all factions to resolve the issue.

Abbas called on the Israeli side to implement agreements related to prisoners, especially those who were detained before Oslo, and agreements with the former prime minister of Israel.

Abbas also condemned the death of Arafat Jaradat in Israeli custody and called for an international investigation.

Abbas obviously wants something similar to the prisoner release that was part of the UK's deal in N. Ireland. But the difference is that there was compromise there. And there was a willingness to work toward peaceful coexistence, and positive co-operation. Not the ethnic cleansing of your grab of land. Or the continued education of your youth to perpetuate aggression. Or to continue hostilities through propaganda campaigns like BDS. Intransigence perpetuates war. Peace requires compromise.

Abbas says "No peace without freedom for prisoners", and
Israel says No freedom for prisoners without peace, and
Obviously freedom and peace must be achieved simultaneously,
so it's time to stop making such statements and Negotiate them,
or it's time to accept there will be No Peace & NO Freedom !!!!

How stupid Abbas is - his stupidity does not have limits. He said no peace - does no peace mean war? If yes, palestinians would be very-very stupid to start another war against Israel - they are not that good in fighting, they lost all previous wars which they started - in 1948, 1956, 1967, 1973, 2000, 2008, 2012 and so on. They will of cause lose new war - no doubts. With losing new war they will lose more land and remaining hopes for the Palestinian state. You see now how stupid it is.

O Abu Mazzen!Think BROADER!Not just for factional votes! It's an easy, temporary thing, for Israel to empty its jail-space of older detainees right B4 it RE-fills them with younger, protesters!Israeli security always'releases'older detainees, only to RE-arrest younger ones later,if it means avoiding the REAL CORE"issue"4 ALL Palestinians,i.e. the ENTIRE OCCUPATION,Jewish-only colonies on Palestinian land, water rights,&RIGHT OF RETURN!Isn't that what the hunger-strike is for?PALESTINE,not Fatah votes!

I hope that President Mahmoud Abbas and his entourage, remains hard determined and purposefully this time .No peace without releasing prisoners. Settlement stop, get refugees back home.(also everything else for the palestinians) And I hope also to see those war criminals responsible and involved in all the crimes against Palestinians punished by ICC

Bad news for my Palestinian neighbors: NO PEACE WITHOUT NEGOTIATIONS!!!!

8 ) @ HA #6 / Agreement
28/02/2013 15:06
I too "hope that President Mahmoud Abbas remains hard determined",
since in that case the situation remain, as it has for 20 years, where if
- PALESTINIANS - want change, and a chance for a real state, they
- MUST NEGOTIATE, - regardless of Israel's settlement growth,
- AND COMPROMISE, - regardless of Israel's peace/statehood terms !!!

9 ) @ 8 your unrealistic Dreams / are foams
28/02/2013 18:45
THE PALESTINIANS HAVE NEGOTIATED LONG ENOUGH ( TO LONG ) without positive Agreement Its time for deeds, acts, actions in fact everything for the Palestinians for the tyrannized and terrorized Palestinians Nothing for the Israelis, no settlements, settlers no Israeli soldiers and army ON PALESTINIAN LAND ,This parsiteres behavior must end.
