PA: Independent doctor to investigate detainee's death
Published Friday 01/03/2013 (updated) 03/03/2013 15:12
BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israel will grant a request from the Palestinian Authority to bring an independent doctor to investigate the death of a detainee who died in Israeli custody, an official said Friday.

Civil Affairs Minister Hussein al-Sheikh told Ma’an that the foreign doctor would investigate the death of Arafat Jaradat, who died last week in an Israeli prison.

“This is the first time Israel agrees that a non-Israeli doctor will participate in an issue related to Palestinians in Israeli jails,” al-Sheikh told Ma'an.

But the official said the doctor had not yet been identified and he did not name a date of arrival.

Jaradat, 30, died in Israel's Megiddo prison on Saturday, a week after he was arrested and accused of throwing stones.

Israeli authorities have called the cause of death ambiguous, but a Palestinian Authority health official present at his autopsy concluded the body showed signs of torture.

..“This is the first time Israel agrees that a non-Israeli doctor will participate in an issue related to Palestinians in Israeli jails,” al-Sheikh told Ma'an" .. - Only by allowing an independent doctor to conduct the investigation into the death of the martyr Arafat Jaradat, will truth & justice to come out, however painful it may be for all sides. Take your time, do not rush in agreeing a doctor or a date, but do ensure that the investigation is done properly, for the sake of Arafat's family.

Are they going to exhume the body? It should have been carried out before burial.

Independent, shmendipendent. It could be a matter of recorded fact that the guy's bones were broken and Israel would still calmly claim it was a heart attack. Come to think of it, that's what they are doing. Israel lies. No matter how improbable the lies, her supporters profess to believe them. So long as Israel lasts, this will always be the situation.

To AKEENReader #2 'Are they going to exhume the body? It should have been carried out before burial.' It's reaching the point where I would say 'why bother?' We all know what Israel is. It's just that there are people who like what it is, and those who don't.

#2 - not to worry, any broken bones is sufficient solid evidence of torture, and where's there is any broken bone (e.g. ribs, skull, etc) there would have been extensive soft tissue damage and bruising around the area of any break from any force strong enough to break bones. much can still be learned of the truth that Jaradat was definitely tortured to death.

If "Prisoner dies in Palestinian Authority custody", but there is NO "Boiling" in the West Bank for days, it will be clear, that Pal demonstrations are just racism, and they have nothing to do with the prisoner's deaths !!
