NABLUS (Ma'an) -- Thousands of worshipers gathered in Nablus on Friday to show solidarity with Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

The worshipers performed Islamic funeral prayers for Arafat Jadarat, who died in Israeli prison custody last week, with Sheikh Majid Dweikat calling on the Islamic and Arab world to take action immediately to support prisoners "rather than leaving them alone in the battlefield facing their wardens."

After Friday prayers, thousands of people marched through the streets of Nablus to denounce Israeli policies against Palestinian prisoners.

The director of the Nablus office of the Palestinian Prisoners Society said that President Abbas had been contacting international powers to help free Palestinian prisoners.

Raed Amir said that Diaspora Palestinians had also held solidarity campaigns to support hunger striking prisoners.

- IF either Palestinian prisoners or the Palestinian Authority want change, THEN they will have to keep the agreements the make with Israel, and - IF the Palestinian Authority wants real statehood for the people, THEN it will have to reach a negotiated peace agreement with Israel.
