RAMALLAH (Ma’an) – A street in al-Bireh near Ramallah in the central West Bank will be named after late Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, says the city’s municipal council.

The mayor Fawzi Abid announced the decision Saturday while a delegation of his municipality visited the Venezuelan embassy in al-Bireh to offer condolences.

“Chavez's death is a loss to the whole world and to the Palestinian people in particular, because Chavez was a great supporter of Palestinian rights,” the mayor said.
