Israeli man asks Palestinian Authority for political asylum
Published Monday 11/03/2013 (updated) 13/03/2013 14:49
TULKAREM (Ma'an) -- An Israeli man surrendered himself to security forces in Tulkarem on Monday, requesting political asylum in Palestinian Authority controlled areas of the West Bank.

Andre Beniron, 23, told Ma'an that he wanted temporary political asylum and protection while finding a way to leave Israel.

The young man said he immigrated to Israel from Russia 20 years ago and lived with his mother in Haifa. He was struggling to survive financially in Israel and described his life as difficult.

The Palestinian Authority has refused to comment on the matter, with sources saying that the PA will hand the man over to Israel's military liaison department.

That's weird. We're the ones that can't get into and out of Israel, much less the West Bank and Gaza...with IDF at all the borders, checkpoints, all the visas, and travel permits, etc... What makes this guy think that he can't leave on his own, as an Israeli Jew? He could probably just board a plane and fly out of Tel Aviv, unless there's some kind of restriction placed on him by the Israeli government. Even at his worst, he's still far more free than the rest of us.

#1 Dont be so hasty in your conclusions. Recall the Australian Mossad agent who hung himself in an Israeli prison..This mans story is surely more than meets the eye...But asking the puppet treacherous PA to protect him? Its like a Jew approaching the Vichy government for protection from Nazis. The PA has absolutely no sovereignty and never will, for its run by a bunch of corrupt sell outs benefiting from the status quo of occupation and apartheid.

@ 1), Not only weird but (very) embarrassing (for us, at least) ... Separately ... He came here as a young child and apparently has some serious economic/personal problems he and his family are trying to cope with. More will have to be revealed from the interviewing and reporting about him. All I can say at this point is any Israelite asking for political (or any) asylum in the State of Palestine is ludicrous (on the surface of it) but since this is so weird more will have to be told.

Be careful,is right! As a Russian Jew,he should have FULL mobility to transit without restriction,UNLESS HE'S IN LEGAL TROUBLE already? Unlike the Palestinians who are don't have to do anything wrong,2B treated like SOCIAL LEPORS,in isolation camps,on their own land!More publically humiliated on SEGREGATED BUSES,again like lepors,or untermenschen,in their own LAND!Just contact the Russian embassy &ask Russian authorities to handle him/fly him back to Russia!Period! He has 2 passports RIGHT?

It is weird you are right, because the Pa have no sovereignty like you said. Surely the man himself must know this??

This is such complete nonsense, since:
1- IF "the young man was struggling to survive financially in Israel",
he was/is, always been free leave Israel, and
2- "Finding a way to leave Israel" is as easy as buying a bus ticket to Amman, Petra, Cairo, or the Pyramids, but
3- if he's struggling financially in Israel, he will be struggling even harder in the PA territories, where unemployment is higher, wages are lower, and begging for international donations is a way of life !!!

Lynx I agree fully with what you say here. There is probably a lot more to this story than what is told here, as a good story who sells well we need to be careful with taking things out of proportion without checking their authenticity. You are also right that to ask for asylum from the Palestinian authority is completely reticules but I guess that's part of his point, he wanted to put the authority's in Israel in an imbarasing position!

Not ludicrous at all. Absent any other evidence we would have to presume he is under abuse of some sort in the criminal state of Israel and prevented to leave by normal means, as that is the implication of the situation. Asking for asylum in Palestine may be a political stunt (against zionist Israel), but is more likely a matter of availablity; when you need political asylum you turn to whatever other state you can get to.

He is probably an inside spy for Israel, trying to get more sophisticated intel.

Of course,he may be just trying to do what many other Israeli Jews are doing right now? TRYING TO GET AWAY FROM ISRAEL and GO BACK TO Europe(France/Germany etc)or back to RUSSIA! If he was in the Israeli Army, working in The Occupied Territories, like many Russian-Jewish soldiers(some very brutal to Palestinians)he's probably totally screwed up&PTSD'd by political Zionism?

I believe him. Israel is a bankrupt State that depends on the US for financial support. They building so many settlements just to push the Palestinians out of their land while many Israelis are starving and out of work. He probably the only honest man in Israel and had guts to come forward. I wont turn down a good man, the PA should help him get his wish and maybe send him to Egypt to find his way maybe back to Russia.

#4 southparkbear - I read almost daily your conclusions - and boy, do you jump to them very readily. How do you know this guy is an alcoholic????

Israel financially supports all Jewish immigrants who have decided to settle in the occupied Palestine. It is a way to promote immigration and increase the number of Israelites. However, this financial support is not for free. There are conditions that must be met by the receiver party. One of these conditions is to remain in the occupied Palestine, and if you want to leave you must repay all the money that was given to you "as a loan". This person cannot repay and cannot leave without a trial.

However, he does not qualify to become an asylum seeker. There is nothing in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that entitles a person to seek political asylum on the ground of financial difficulties. However, if there is fear for being tortured or to receive an unfair trail regarding his debts then he will be able to seek asylum. I don't know enough details about the situation but what I hope is that this incident will be the first spark that encourage Israelite to leave Palestine.

Is he a Jew? There were a lot of non-Jews seeking opportunities to leave Russia, I recall reading in the past. Also, he is probably trying to evade military draft by IDF. Otherwise, I am not aware of any restrictions by Israel on departing Israel (unless one does not have money for a ticket?).

Tibi, your racism knows no bounds, for us in Palestine, "begging for international donations" is not "a way of life !!!" Most of us work 2 or 3 jobs to just make ends meet. We do however have a non-profit sector much like Israel and the rest of the world that rely on donations.

20 ) @ Rami-19 / \ Tibi/Tubas
12/03/2013 14:51
- The taxes raised by our "working 2 or 3 jobs to just make ends meet,"
should after 20 years, be paying 100% to run the PA government, but
- our PA government is still mostly funded by foreign euros & dollars, and
- our PA government is always asking for more international donations.

I know that there have been a couple of Israeli jews who have done this...try to leave Israel by going to Palestine, jews of recent Russian origin. They were both sent back to Israel, if I recall correctly. Probably more as a political statement but bravo anyway! We must realize too that many Russian jews face discrimination from other other jews in Israel...

Wait.... Whaaaaat? Only one conclusion I can jump too. Definitely not a spy. I'm sure Israeli intelligence has more discrete ways of doing that. I'd love to get more on this story.

Funny how some of the Zionist posters can't express their thoughts without numbering them. Seems they do not know how to put a paragraph together. To these people, and all other like them, I suggest they repeat my name over and over like a mantra until they see its true meaning.

#19 Rami: Don't forget to mention that Israel itself receives the most foreign aid from the USA. They are the true beggers ....maybe swindlers and thieves is a more apt description though. Really they are the scum of the earth who would do anything to take what does not belong to them. Truly walking pieces of crap.

Feelings of guilt & shame can be powerful. I’m from the USA and feel so guilty & ashamed of my government sometimes. I feel hopeless & depressed talking to "average Americans". Maybe he feels the same? Maybe his FREEDOM from guilt, shame, hopeless, etc. is to live together with the Palestinians. Maybe for his life he can best help fix the Israel/Palestine problem thru this? Many stories of "rich" people who leave & find happiness living with the poor and oppressed. He got the world to question!

Everyone is so shocked but why? Do u honestly think that Israel is as democratic as it claims to be? A lot of Jews are struggling in Israel for many reasons and many of them have big problems but u don't see that kind problems on ur average news, that's why immigration to Israel has declined a lot in recent past years.
