Report: Mossad wiretapped Abbas' office in 1993
Published Monday 11/03/2013 (updated) 13/03/2013 11:29
TEL AVIV, Israel (Ma'an) -- Israel's Mossad security service wiretapped Mahmoud Abbas' office in Tunis when he was deputy chairman of the PLO in 1993, Israeli media reported Monday.

In May 1993, months before the signing of the Oslo Accords, the Mossad chief at the time Shabtai Shavit held an emergency meeting to inform his top commanders that the agency had successfully installed wiretapping equipment in Abbas' office, Yedioth Ahronoth reported.

Israel was able to gather key information about PLO activities and relationships within the organization, particularly between Abbas and his boss at the time, Yasser Arafat, the report said.

Abbas' office was tapped by "a Fatah-affiliated man within the PLO leadership" who had been recruited by a Mossad unit responsible for enlisting informers, according to the report. The agent was known to the Mossad as "Golden Fleece."

The devices were discovered less than a month later and destroyed, the report added.

I agree with your "gag order comment", where Maan must be really desperate for stories, if this is still fit to print 20 years have passed.
And besides, if the PLO could have wire-tapped Israeli offices,
they would have done so, or even fire-bombed them.

I am sure Israelis have wiretapped most of the Palestinian govt buildings now including that of President & PM. Israeli govts CANNOT be trusted and will only behave when they bamboo up their back side. Iran is a good match for the Israelis.

The Israelis spy on everyone even the USA (their so called ally). The Israelis cannot be trusted by a friend or foe. They are deceptive and heinous in every sense of the word.
