RAMALLAH (Ma’an) – The foreign minister of Lithuania on Wednesday decided to upgrade Palestine's diplomatic status from a commission to a mission.

A statement by the ministry of foreign affairs in Ramallah quoted Linas Antanas Limkevicius as saying he notified the Palestinian ambassador to Finland Nabil al-Wazir of the decision in an official letter.

In his letter, the foreign minister of Lithuania highlighted that relations between Palestine and Lithuania improved. He also denounced Israel’s settlement expansion.

Bravo Lithuania! After what happened to SO MANY Lithuanian Jews before, under similar persecution, segregation, expulsion&racist bigotry, that's a COURAGEOUS,moral action! It's also good because F/M Linas is a member of the ELN(EuropeanLeadershipNetwork)which wants to align ROGUE-nuclear power Israel with the NPT &CLEAR the M/E,N/E region of ALL NUKES! Bravo!!! http://www.europeanleadershipnetwork.org/participants_45.html

This is just a ploy for Lithuania's campaign to be on the Security Council. Also, what the heck is a Mission? shouldnt it be an Embassy like the rest of Europe? Lithuania was never a pioneer, in anything, but lets get some common sense!

As a country that has known occupation, terror, and the equivalent of illegal settlements (USSR's policy of Russification in the Baltics), I am proud to have Lithuania recognize this new country. I hope this will help the Palestinian people finally recognize what it feels like to oust oppressors, achieve independence, and enjoy self-determination as an already respected member of the international community

I only wish that more countries would insist on a return to basic humsn rights for the Palestinians and recognition of nationhood. My native US for one.
