BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- The governor of Jenin district said Saturday that most of the 15 victims who died after a bus carrying pilgrims in Jordan overturned were from the Jenin area.

"We are working on arrangements to bring the bodies to Jenin," Talal Dweikat told Ma'an.

The bus, carrying Palestinian pilgrims who performed the Umrah pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, overturned on the Dead Sea road, according to the Amman-based daily al-Ghad.

The director of al-Shuna al-Janubiyya Hospital told al-Ghad that 15 people were killed in the accident and 30 sustained injuries. Twenty-five injured have been transferred to hospitals in Amman, he said noting that five are in critical condition.

The newspaper quoted sources in Jordan’s Public Security Directorate as saying that a bus collided with a truck and a small car before it turned over. The truck driver was also killed in the accident.

Earlier, Palestinian religious affairs minister Mahmoud al-Habbash confirmed that a bus carrying pilgrims overturned en route to Jordan’s King Hussein Bridge crossing.

“We are contacting Jordanian officials for specific details,” he said.

So sad - at least they had performed Umrah, and will now be in Jana, insha'allah. Maybe the transport authorities could think about making seat-belts in buses compulsory - they save many lives.....

When I travel to the Middle East , I refuse to drive. Sure there is room for better engineered roads , signage , safety inspections for vehicles, But the most needed is a public awareness to change the attitude of drivers. People tend to drive aggressivley w/o disregard to the safety of others. Unless this changes , no amount of seat belts is going to guarantee the safety of people.

To#2: what kind of comment is this idiot?Unless ur pleased with this palestinian tragedy , as a reminder of the Israeli occupation forces massacring the innocent men , women and children , then buldozing the houses with peoplr inside them mercelesly. That is the main theme of mohammad bakri,s movie Jenin Jenin. But what is ur motive for s name after the bus accident? Hum..........?
