Minister says PA rejects deportation of prisoners

RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- The Palestinian Authority minister of detainees said Sunday that the PA refuses to accept the deportation of Palestinian prisoners by Israel.

Issa Qaraqe said that two months ago Israel made an offer to release and deport hunger striking prisoners Ayman Sharawna and Samer Issawi.

Deporting Palestinian prisoners is political blackmail, Qaraqe said, and the PA refused the offer.

On Wednesday, Samer Issawi's lawyer said that he "could die at any moment," after escalating his seven-month hunger strike by refusing water.

He has been on hunger strike for 228 days and was hospitalized in late February.

Israeli forces arrested him on July 7 and accused him of violating the terms of his release by leaving Jerusalem. Israeli prosecutors are seeking to reinstate Issawi's former sentence.

Ayman Sharawna, 36, went on hunger strike on July 1, 2012, but briefly stopped on Dec. 23 after believing there were developments in his case, prisoner rights group Addameer says.

He restarted the strike in January.

So he was convicted of absolutely nothing (as most administrative detainees), his rights have been violated, and as punishment or sorry, "compromise" from the graciousness of the Israeli hearts...he's been offered to be deported completely OUT of Palestine away from friends, family, children, spouse, livelihood, etc...to a foreign, remote country without any support whatsoever. Hmmm..why would a detainee turn down such a FANTASTIC offer? Israelis are the new NAZIS.

PA shouldn't just reject deportation, stand up to the brutal Israeli regime. Such treatment has gone on long enough and it's time that Israeli govt is tackled head on. After over two decades hasn't PA learnt how to stand up to Israel?

cont. Therefor the only way historically nations have dealt with such hostile neighbors is infringe upon their rights by playing dirty too. If there were more people in the palestinian community standing up and trying to normalize relations with Israel, or do something to promote peace or understanding between themselves and Israelies, there would be no need for such injustices. Until that happens they do what they have to do in order to exist as a nation.

To Tommy, You seem incapable of reading, both prisoners have been held without charge, that means there is no and has been no lawful basis to detain and imprison them. Israel should just release them.
