CEC announces timeline for local elections

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Voter registry lists will be published for 36 municipalities on Saturday, ahead of local elections in June, the Central Elections Commission said Sunday.
Most of the West Bank voted in new councils in October and November, but a new round of voting will be held in 36 municipalities on June 1.
In these municipalities, voting was postponed due to court decisions, or because no electoral lists qualified for nomination in the 2012 rounds, or because the majority of council members have resigned.
The CEC said in a statement Sunday that voter lists would be published for five days from Saturday.
Nominations will open on April 16 for 10 days, and the final date to withdraw nominations will be May 17, the electoral body said.
The final list of candidates will be published on May 18, when campaigning will begin ahead of polling day on June 1.
