GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Ayman Sharawna has multiple health problems but is in a stable condition, after over eight months on hunger strike, the health ministry in Gaza said Monday.

Sharawna is suffering abdominal pain, gastroesophageal reflux and severe vomiting, digestive problems and a stomach ulcer, as well as severe constipation, kidney problems and weak vision, ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said in a statement.

Sharawna is being treated in intensive care at Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

The 36-year-old arrived through Erez crossing on Sunday evening after signing an agreement with Israeli authorities to be deported to the Gaza Strip for 10 years, ending a hunger strike he began in July.

The father-of-nine is from Hebron in the southern West Bank.

Keeping him away from his children and family is sick and torture itself. Israel is a SICK place.
