Israel: Iran would need around a year to build Atomic bomb
Published Wednesday 20/03/2013 21:28
JERUSALEM (Reuters) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed with the United States on Wednesday that Iran needs roughly a year to build a nuclear weapon, but stressed that Israel's initial concerns were focused on uranium enrichment.

At a joint news conference with US President Barack Obama, Netanyahu reiterated that Israel did not want to see Iran build up its stockpiles of enriched uranium, regardless of whether the Islamic Republic had decided to go on and build an atomic bomb.

"If Iran decides to go for a nuclear weapon ... then it will only take them about a year," Netanyahu said, adding: "Iran gets to an immunity zone when they get through the enrichment process in our view."

Of course, this tells us nothing about Iran's atomic bomb program. Israel's statement is of interest only to the extent that indicates what Israel's latest posture is in this whole auto-generated 'crisis' of hers. The primary determinant of the 'Iranian nuclear threat' is not what may or may not be happening in Iran, but what Israel's political needs of the moment are. If she needs an external crisis, that 'bomb' will be on the verge of completion. If she doesn't, it'll be years away.
