BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- US President Barack Obama visited Bethlehem's Nativity Church on Friday later than scheduled due to bad weather and an extended meeting with Israel's prime minister.

Obama's meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem overran by an hour, Israeli media reported.

Meanwhile, strong winds blowing clouds of dust grounded Obama's helicopter, forcing the US leader to make the short journey from Jerusalem to Bethlehem by motorcade.

The route took Obama through a checkpoint in Israel's wall in the occupied West Bank.

In Bethlehem, Obama was greeted by President Mahmoud Abbas, mayor Vera Baboun and clergy at the Nativity Church, the traditional site of Jesus's birth.

The US president was accompanied by Secretary of State John Kerry.

Sparse crowds of onlookers were on the streets of the wind-swept Biblical city, where Obama spent only 35 minutes, the final stage of his three-day visit to Israel and the Palestinian Territories.

At the Nativity Church, Obama ducked to enter through its small Door of Humility. Manger Square, the plaza in front of the church, was almost deserted except for security personnel.

A few waiters watched from a nearby restaurant and souvenir shops were almost empty or shuttered.

It was Obama's second visit as president to the occupied West Bank, capping a 48-hour tour that has mostly emphasized Israeli concerns.

Ahead of the brief visit, the mayor of Bethlehem said she hoped Obama would think hard about what he sees.

Baboun described Obama's trip as a welcome gesture to learn of the obstacles facing her city.

"It's important that President Obama comes and sees, as a president, and listens because we need acts," Baboun said. "Enough is enough, I think. We waited a long time."

To obama #1: 'Bethlehem IS THE MOST SACRED PLACE ON EARTH!' No...Jerusalem would be the city we care about, actually. See the history of the Crusades. You see, as in Islam, Christianity holds that Christians are the heirs of the Jews as the chosen people, and as such, the deed to Jerusalem has passed to us. When the Jews betrayed Christ, they forfeited their birthright. See the 'parable of the evil husbandmen.' It's quite clear. I mean, that's the theology. Just sayin'

The President visited the Church of the Nativity and road through the Israeli checkpoint in a dust storm to get there. Let's hope that he recognized all he saw and continues to work for a just and secure peace between two ancient peoples.

Mr President I am glad you could'nt fly to Bethlehem, maybe it is God will you travelled from Jerusalem to Bethlehem through Israeli check point,Mr President spare a thought for the Palestinian people who have to suffer on daily basis to go from one place to another where they are stopped and delayed from moving around ,the majority of People in Bethlehem and other Palestinian cities can not get into Jerusalem to visit some relatives or to go and pray in the holy sites.Think of them Mr Pesident.

The only problem is,he is not inclusively moral, just, courageous enough to CARRY THE CROSS(the symbol of human evil, sin&corruption)toward morality &redeem"Equal Justice Under Law"! Corporate/Lobby votes & misguided power hewn from Rule of Lawlessness,&UNDue Process won't tolerate a JUST morality,Obama! You chose to selectively change your national,moral/ethical PLEDGE of"Liberty and Justice for all" to "..for the few"! That's"Change we" can't & shouldn't "believe in",Mr.Public-Servant Barack!

#2 "Christianity holds that Christians are the heirs of the Jews as the chosen people, and as such, the deed to Jerusalem has passed to us. When the Jews betrayed Christ, they forfeited their birthright." Another way to put it is that HaShem made his FIRST Covenant between G-d and man with Abraham, promising land, wealth, dominion over others etc. if the "chosen people" obeyed the "statutes and judgments" (as revealed to Moses). THEN G-d made a SECOND Covenant (when he sent Jesus

(contd.) to be sacrificed) but this time with ALL people, NULLIFYING the FIRST and the whole idea that any one group is chosen or special. No wonder they reject/hate Jesus. It's a major demotion. From top dog to regular person, part of mankind, like everyone else. And of course, Christianity is universal and inclusive. Like Islam. Everyone is welcome. So "the deed to Jerusalem", spiritually speaking, is the "birthright" of anyone who believes. Which has gotta sting.
