Militants attack Sinai checkpoints

EL-ARISH, Egypt (Ma'an) – Islamist militants on Monday simultaneously attacked two military checkpoints in Sheikh Zuweid city in Egypt's Sinai, security sources said.

One attack targeted a checkpoint in the al-Kharroub neighborhood, leading to clashes with the army. Egyptian soldier Ibrahim Mumammad Salamah, 24, was injured in the leg, security officials told Ma'an.

Meanwhile, militants also attacked a checkpoint in Abu Tawila neighborhood. Army officer Husam Muhammad was shot in the leg before the attackers fled.
