BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- The Palestinian Authority is waiting on the outcome of the crisis in Egypt to move forward on reconciliation with Hamas, a senior PLO official said Thursday.

Egypt's military rulers on Wednesday launched a bloody crackdown on protesters demonstrating against the army's removal of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi, whose Muslim Brotherhood movement is close to Hamas. More than 500 people were killed in the country's worst violence in decades.

PLO Executive Committee member Wasel Abu Yousef said the Fatah-led PA would wait for the outcome of the crisis in Egypt to proceed with reconciliation with Hamas.

Cairo has hosted several rounds of reconciliation talks between the rival Palestinian movements.

At a meeting of a committee of political leaders at his headquarters in Ramallah on Thursday, President Mahmoud Abbas said he was committed to national reconciliation.

Abu Yousef said the committee was formed in the lead up to Palestine's bid for UN membership. Abbas invited the committee to meet on Thursday to discuss political affairs, Abu Yousef told Ma'an.

The committee will continue to meet regularly, the PLO official added.

At Thursday's meeting, several committee members, from different factions, expressed their rejection of the resumption of negotiations with Israel, Abu Yousef said.

Israeli and Palestinian negotiators resumed direct talks in Jerusalem on Wednesday.

A big mistake, the future of Palestine should not be compromised because of an on- going outcome of any political process in any of the Arab countries. The reason, among others, that the Palestinian situation is still in shamble is because of bad decisions taken in the past just like this one.
Wright or wrong, the Palestinian situation is unique and should be treated as such.

Egypt's military rulers should launch a bloody crackdown on Hamas, Islamic Jihad and PLO also - just to be consistent.

As long as Hamas continues it's refusal to compromise it's charter in any form, shape or fashion ,meaningful reconciliation will remain impossible.

Article 7 in the Hamas charter, drawn in 1988,is the real reconciliation destroyer.

I can only say how utterly stupid and worthless it is to even consider Palestinian "unity" in connection with anything ... and it's even dumber to make the Egyptian crisis the reason. The Egyptians are in no position to do a damn thing now or later and the only Palestinians making any sense about these rat's-ass "peace" talks are Hamas, their allied factions and those mentioned in the 2nd-from-the-bottom paragraph above ("At Thursday's meeting ... "). 9 more months of this bullsh*t ??? ...
