EL-ARISH (Ma'an) -- Gunmen on Wednesday killed a Sinai clan chief and former lawmaker in a drive-by shooting in front of the Swiss Inn Resort in el-Arish.
Issa Kharafen, who was a supporter of the Egyptian army, was shot in the head and taken to el-Arish hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Kharafen was the head of the el-Armilat tribe in Egyptian Rafah and he served in two parliament terms during the rule of former President Hosni Mubarak.
The killing comes a day after Egyptian army helicopters launched missile strikes at militant strongholds Sheikh Zuweid in the Sinai peninsula killing over 15.
