CAIRO (Ma’an) -- Egyptian governorates were on alert Friday ahead of Muslim Brotherhood demonstrations, security sources said.
The Islamist group called for demonstrations through the National Alliance for Supporting Legitimacy group at all Egyptian squares, particularly at Raba al-Adawiya square.
Egyptian authorities shut down roads leading to the square and the Arab League street as well as other sites where demonstrators typically gather in Cairo.
They also deployed heavily in "strategic" cities across the country.
