BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) – Member of Hamas’ politburo Mousa Abu Marzouk applauded President Mahmoud Abbas’ latest speech in which Abbas maintained that the Gaza Strip should receive more support and the Rafah crossing should remain open.
Abu Marzouk wrote on his Facebook page Tuesday that “President Abbas’ remarks about Rafah crossing and fuel supply to Gaza’s power plant reflected responsibility and would contribute much to unity and reunion.”
He added that Abbas’ remarks ruled out opportunism and narrow-minded disputes.
Abu Marzouk also rejected reports claiming that an agreement was reached between Hamas and ousted Egyptian president Muhamad Morsi on enlarging the Gaza Strip to parts of Sinai Peninsula to create an Islamic emirate to be run by Hamas.
“Telling lies is ill-advised, and it becomes more ill-advised when it comes from religious leaders … these are false claims, and were never proposed to Hamas by president Morsi or anybody else.”
