EL-ARISH, Egypt (Ma'an) -- Egypt's army launched air and ground attacks on militant strongholds in Sinai on Sunday, military officials said.
Helicopters targeted suspected militant strongholds in al-Mahdiya village south of Rafah and el-Arish, officials told Ma'an.
Egyptian forces cut communications in the area in order to prevent bomb attacks detonated by remote control and launched military action in Ismailia and the al-Sharqia district.
Egypt's military detained thirteen gunmen and seized large caches of weapons.
On Saturday, four Egyptian soldiers were injured by an explosion in Sinai, with two of the soldiers critically wounded and transferred to a military hospital in el-Arish.
