HANOI (Ma’an) – Palestinian ambassador to Vietnam Sadi Tmeizi on Monday visited the family of Vietnam leader Gen. Von Nguyen Giap, who died Friday at 103.
The envoy expressed condolences on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas.
Tmeizi told the mourners that Abbas and other Palestinian officials were proud of the distinguished role Giap played in maintaining friendship between the Palestinian and Vietnamese people.
He asserted that Giap’s death was a great loss not only to the Vietnamese people but to the Palestinian people as well as all peoples struggling for freedom, independence and social development.
The central committee of the Communist Party in Vietnam will organize a commemoration for Giap on Oct. 12 and 13 in the capital Hanoi.
Giap masterminded Vietnam’s victories against France and the US in the 1950s and 1960s, and he is viewed in Vietnam as a national hero.
