TULKAREM (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian woman from the Tulkarem area in the northern West Bank has married an Israeli Jew who converted to Islam.

Saedah Haroun, in her 30s, told a Ma'an reporter that her Jewish husband Dawood is in his 40s. She said he proposed to her after he converted to Islam and had registered himself as a Muslim in Palestinian Authority courts.

Haroun added that David changed his name to Dawood as part of the conversion. She also noted that for years Dawood had maintained good relations with Arabs and Muslims in Israel, where he was from.

She mentioned that during these years he had become increasingly attracted to Islam, and finally accepted to convert as part of his marriage to her.

She added that many of her friends and family members had attended the wedding, pointing out that it was "far from secret," and was instead as joyous as any wedding in her village.

According to the prevailing Palestinian interpretation of Hanafi Islamic law, Muslim women are restricted from marrying non-Muslim men.

However, converts to Islam are treated similar to any other Muslim.

Ma shah Allah. Alfa mabruk to Saedah & Dawood, may Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala (God, Glorified and Exalted be He) grant you peace, happiness & a wonderful life together. The invitation to Islam is open for everybody & anyone who wishes to embrace Islam is welcome. In the time of the Prophet Muhammed (sws), Abdullah (Al- Husayn) ibn Salam (radi Allah anhu) a Levite Jewish Rabbi from Yathrib (Madinah Al-Munawarah) also embraced Islam & was known as one of the "People of Paradise" (ahl - al -jannah).

He probably was a Jew that visited the Al Aqsa Mosque. Sooner or later the continued Jewish visitation to the Mosque will convert some to Islam.

Why do you refer to him as "israeli jew"? He is a muslim now and is no longer a jew. Secondly, "israelis" are people from all over the world who came to palestine and occupied it so instead of saying "israeli" you should say israeli of xx origin (insert the origin) in order to clarify what israel really is when referring to israelis. Anyway, congratulations to the couple. There is nothing wrong with marrying a former jew who is now a muslim, he is one of us now. Alf mabrouk. Wish them the best.
