NABLUS (Ma'an) -- Israeli settlers on Tuesday uprooted 53 olive trees in Kafr Laqif village west of Qalqiliya, officials said.

Ghassan Douglas, a Palestinian Authority official who monitors settlement activities in the northern West Bank, said that a number of Israeli settlers from the Karni Shomron settlement uprooted around 53 olive trees belonging to Suleiman Jaber.

In a separate incident, Israeli settlers from the Yitzhar settlement assaulted and beat a Palestinian man, Mohammad al-Zein, from Burin village south of Nablus.

At the time of the attack, al-Zein was cultivating his land. He suffered from various wounds as a result of the assault.

Israeli settler attacks on Palestinians increase markedly during the annual olive harvest, when settlers frequently attempt to prevent Palestinians from reaching their land.

The Israeli military often protects Israeli settlers who target Palestinians. Additionally, Israeli forces also target those Palestinians who respond to settler attacks.

More than 500,000 Israeli settlers live in settlements across the West Bank and East Jerusalem, in contravention of international law. The internationally recognized Palestinian territories of which the West Bank and East Jerusalem form a part have been occupied by the Israeli military since 1967.

Are they uprooting olive trees because its on their land or they just doing it to aggravate the Palestinians?. And why the Palestinians stay along with the Israelis to talk about peace when you have some bunch of idiots don't like olives?. If I was them I would tell the Israelis to stick their olive trees where the sun don't shine, and let them be their problems. And see how quick they'll make a stop to it.

@William the PA security forces are not allowed to operate in most parts of the West Bank, and especially near settlements. This area is most definitely up to Israel to police.

-1- "The PA security forces" have No Authority in Area C (as per Oslo), where 100% of the Jewish villages/"settlements" are located, and almost certainly that is where these villages are located too !! -2- Judaism IS much more "a religion of peace", and "settlers" almost never fire the weapons they carry weapons, and then only in self-defense, like Israeli soldiers. In contrast, when their Muslim neighbors have guns, Jews are shot at frequently, hence the Security Fence was built !!

It may indeed be an added benefit that "they do to aggravate Palestinians,"
but it is also done for security concerns, since "Arab" trees near a "Jewish" village means more Arabs will be routinely near the village, and eventually Arab terrorists will take advantage of the situation !!

To @#7 '...since "Arab" trees near a "Jewish" village means more Arabs will be routinely near the village, and eventually Arab terrorists will take advantage of the situation !!' Lol. That takes a prize.
