BEN GURION AIRPORT, Israel (AFP) -- Israel and the Palestinians are closer to a peace deal than they have been in years, US Secretary of State John Kerry said on Friday wrapping up his latest visit.

"I believe we are closer than we have been in years to bringing about the peace and the prosperity and the security that all of the people of this region deserve," he told reporters traveling with his delegation at Ben Gurion airport near Tel Aviv.

His remarks were made after a day-and-a-half of talks with Israeli and Palestinian officials aimed at driving forward the direct negotiations which began in late July but have made little apparent progress as they approach the halfway point.

Remembering the life of Nelson Mandela, who died late on Thursday, Kerry said the example set by the South African peacemaker should be of particular inspiration for those engaged in the talks.

"The naysayers are wrong to call peace in this region an impossible goal," Kerry said, before quoting Mandela: "It always seems impossible until it's done."

ISRAEL AND PALESTINIANS may be the "closest to peace in years", but
they ARE NOT even remotely "CLOSE" to an agreement NOW, AND
PROBABLY NEVER WILL BE EVER.

Oh cut the verbal BS Kerry! Just show us the cards in your hand, lay them on the table! "Closest" is a relative term, considering that Israel's Zionism is as extremist-right as Nazism in its 67yr USG-funded graduated elimination of pluralistic Palestine &colonial extermination of non-Jews.And"peace"must be defined too.Especially when Zionism's myopic vision of 'peace' is that all Palestinians who remain, should serve Israel's goals ONLY,in every aspect of their daily existence, just as Kerry does!!!

Nelson Mandela had a vision of peace that was inspired by forgiveness, cooperation and determination to build a better future for the next generations of South Africa. Such vision is lacking among the current leaders of both Israel and Palestine.

"Remembering the life of Nelson Mandela, who died late on Thursday, Kerry said the example set by the South African peacemaker should be of particular inspiration for those engaged in the talks" - The IDF is employed by those engaged in talks, but chose not to heed your words Mr Kerry, if the events that unfolded in the W.Bank today are anything to go by. As usual IDF was on top form, showering the Palestinians who were remembering Nelson Mandela, with tear gas, stun grenades & rubber bullets.
