BEIRUT (Ma'an) -- The United Kingdom will donate 15.5 million pounds (over $25.3 million) to the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, a British official announced during a visit to Lebanon Saturday.

Simon Gass, political director of the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office, told reporters that the financial contribution to UNRWA would provide vital support to Palestinian refugees in Syria.

The donation will additionally support Palestinian refugees who have fled Syria for neighboring countries as a result of the ongoing Syrian civil war, Gass said.

He added that he had visited Dbayeh refugee camp east of Beirut and witnessed daily difficulties as Palestinian refugees continued to flood in from Syria.

UNRWA began operations on May 1, 1950, following the displacement of some 750,000 Palestinians from what is now Israel.

The UN General Assembly has repeatedly renewed UNRWA's mandate in absence of a political solution to the issue of Palestinian refugees, most recently extending it until June 2014.

Five million Palestinians are registered as refugees.

"Refugees" even though they were born in the country they live in. I am sure there are other "refugee" populations that are afforded the same status... oh wait, no there aren't

so that's a $4 and a change per capita. now take away salaries $11MM, plus $2.5 hash money it leaves $2 per capita. Wise king Salomon would say save $1 and splurge on the rest

It looks like enough for a Falafel, for each and every Pal child under 16. But nothing for any Syrian, Afghan, Iraqi, Yemen, Egyptian, Tunisian or Libyan refugees.

I don't know why palestinians are so special to spend on. They have no purpose in the world and just plain beggers.

UKG still does ALL but the RIGHT thing!'Donations'are token comfort & further punishment of Palestinians, trapping them into more debt, poverty & neo-colonial SLAVERY.It's not "donation".It's endorsement of the wider WARCRIMES of Israel's ILLEGAL OCCUPATION/BLOCKADE of civilians! UNRWA is a page of the neo-colonial plan depriving non-Jews,of LEGAL freedom & self-determination! Set ALL Palestine free,in dignity,to plant, grow, reap, trade, earn, build a free economy w/out the USG/Zionist YOKE of poverty

Throwing good money after bad. After 65 years, Palestinians need to create their own futures and UNRWA needs to close.
