JERUSALEM (Ma’an) – Israeli authorities started new excavations under the al-Aqsa compound in the Old City of Jerusalem, namely under the Chain Gate on the western side, according to the Jerusalem-based al-Aqsa Foundation for Endowment and Heritage.

The group said in a statement that excavations were about 8 meters below a tunnel the Israelis had dug under the western part of the compound. Dozens of plastic buckets were seen as well as large plastic containers full of soil, according to the statement.

Furthermore, added the group, ancient Islamic buildings in the area were bolstered by steel stanchions “which indicates there are deep excavations under the buildings.”

The group also highlighted that the Israeli “occupation made up” a new Jewish synagogue for females within the tunnel under the western part of al-Aqsa compound. The group added in its statement that several synagogues were created and inaugurated along the same tunnel in the past few years.

It's really going to be the end if Israel 'inadvertently' causes al Aqsa to collapse. At that point, we're all going to have to do something to finally bring this abomination to an end.

Synagogues in tunnels are pretty loony. Maybe we should stop abusing Zionists. Offer them the help they obviously need.

There are points in the tunnels that are thought to be closer to the Holy of Holies than observant Jews can get above ground. And as they're not permitted to set foot on the Haram by the Chief Rabbinate due to its holiness, they create little "synagogues" in the tunnels for prayer. Now I don't care what Jews do in Israel...strap on phylacteries, pray underground or excavate...as long as they do it IN Israel. And in an equitable deal with the Palestinians, HaKotel and the Jewish Quarter

(contd.) would be in Israel, and the rest of the Old City, inc. the Muslim Quarter and Aqsa mosque would be in Palestine. (Of course, there's the minor problem that the Bab al-Silsileh and the Kotel tunnels are NOT in Israel; they're UNDER the Muslim Quarter...but I'm sure Jewish tourists would be allowed to pray there, underground...just as they could visit the Aqsa...if their papers are in order and they behave.)
