QALQILIYA (Ma'an) -- In the second killing of its kind in less than 24 hours early Thursday, Israeli forces raided a northern West Bank neighborhood and shot a Palestinian man dead.

Witnesses said Israeli soldiers raided a neighborhood in the center of Qalqiliya and opened fire at 28-year-old Saleh Samir Abd al-Rahman Yasin, leaving him to bleed to death.

The soldiers shot Yasin "in cold blood," locals said.

A statement issued by the Israeli army said that during a "successful overnight ambush" that was "preplanned," a Palestinian who opened fire at Israeli soldiers was killed.

"The soldiers retaliated towards the source of fire," the statement said.

According to the statement, the "assailant" whom Israeli soldiers killed was "a known gunman" who had exchanged fire with Israeli forces before.

"A gun and ammunition were later found at the scene," the statement said.

Yasin was a member of the Palestinian security forces.

A report by the Israeli news site Ynet said that no Israeli soldiers were injured.

Additionally, late Wednesday, one Palestinian was killed and at least six others were injured after Israeli forces raided Jenin refugee camp and entered the house of a Hamas leader and prisoner.

Locals said undercover Israeli forces arrived at Abu al-Hayja’s home in a car with Palestinian license plates before clashing with Palestinians who noticed them.

Palestinians threw an improvised explosive device at the Israeli forces who called for reinforcements.

Around 25 military vehicles arrived in the camp and fired live ammunition at Palestinians, injuring three people critically. Two people were shot in the stomach and one in the head.

One person died on the way to hospital, an Israeli army spokeswoman told Ma'an. She said military medics were treating the injured Palestinians after the incident.

Witnesses said Israeli forces were refusing to allow ambulances near other injured people.

The spokeswoman said Palestinians fired at army personnel who "retaliated in self-defense."

Army spokesman Peter Lerner said that "operations like this are aimed at preventing the terrorists from reaching our towns and abducting our civilians and attacking Israeli commuters on the road."

The internationally recognized Palestinian territories of which the West Bank and East Jerusalem form a part have been occupied by the Israeli military since 1967.

Correction: A previous version of this article identified the man killed by Israeli soldiers in Qalqiliya as Samir Abd al-Rahman Yasin. In fact, his name is Saleh Samir Abd al-Rahman Yasin.

abbas needs to get off his lazy betraying ass & seek prosecution at the ICC, NOW! the criminal violence & brutal terrorism of izrahell is sickening beyond words, it dwarfs the atrocities of nazi germany by quantum leaps. it's perfectly clear to the world why izrael is being boycotted by the ASA & why izrael is rapidly falling off the world stage. the zionists have mastered self-delegitimization, they bring it upon themselves...they can blame NO ONE else! the world REJECTS izrael for its CRIMES!

Well it was hardly ''cold blood'' that headline even for Ma'an is sensationalism. An IDF force on a counter-terror mission on the West Bank came under Palestinian fire in Qalqilya. One of the attackers was killed in the ensuing gunfight. Wednesday night a Hamas operative was killed and seven Palestinians injured at the Jenin refugee camp after shooting at another IDF force and preventing it from carrying out the detention of a Jihad Islami terrorist.

Saleh Samir Abd al-Rahman Yasin was a peaceful man who just happened to fire on Israeli soldiers when they came looking for him. As for the gun and ammunition found at the scene, these items "just happened" to be in Mr. Yasin's presence and in no way implicates him in any dangerous or terrorist activity whatsoever. In fact, he was just readying himself to go home and spend a quiet evening with his wife and family after finishing up his day duties. That's the story and I'm sticking to it.

Julie, I think it is imperative for you to reconsider your words. It is one thing to strongly believe what Israel is doing is wrong, but to say Israel's actions," dwarf the atrocities of Nazi Germany by quantum leaps" is kind of embarrassing on your part. That is strong language and you have no idea what people went through in the Holocaust. Go ahead and sit back in your Seattle flat and keep criticizing Israel's actions; I go to Jenin 2X a year, you can join if you'd like.

Re not-Mel #3: You're too dull-witted to make this tactic pay off. All you're doing is tacitly admitting Zionism has no better arrows in its quiver than lies and deception.

For your information, though a killing is a big deal,
-1- One life is NOT a major international issue, and
the ICC deals with only with major international issues; however,
-2- Firing 1,000s of rockets at cities IS a major international issue, and

Every reasonably minded person (Mel-3, myself, etc.) knows Three Things:
-1- Being killed by soldiers, after "the Palestinian who opened fire" at them,
is NOT KILLED IN "COLD BLOOD'', and also that
-2- "MAAN sensationalism" DOES NOT CONFORM WITH any
internationally accepted JOURNALISM STANDARDS, and
-3- MAAN complicity with the PLO, in INCITING HATRED & VIOLENCE,

Sorry, but the scenario doesn't indicate a shooting in cold blood, but a shooting caused by being fired upon. Journalism should not be an excuse for sensationalism.

Notice Israel 'pre-planned' an ambush, then claimed Saleh fired on them first, then it turns out he was shot in the back. Anybody feel any doubts about the IDF's version of events?

To Outlier #12: 'Sorry, but the scenario doesn't indicate a shooting in cold blood, but a shooting caused by being fired upon. ' The IDF themselves state they planned the ambush. Maybe you should help them with their lying technique. It's getting pretty shoddy. How do you 'pre-plan' your victim shooting first?
