QALQILIYA (Ma’an) – Mourners from Qalqiliya district in the northern West Bank joined the funeral of Salih Yasin who was shot dead by Israeli troops Thursday morning.

The body of Yasin was covered with a Palestinian flag as mourners carried it from his home to a mosque in the center of Qalqiliya for funeral prayer.

The body was then carried in a military vehicle of the Palestinian national security service to Martyrs’ Cemetery in Qalqiliya. Palestinian officials marched behind the body including the governor of Qalqiliya Abdullah Kameel, the commander of the district’s security services Muhammad Abu al-Hayfa among others.

Several people delivered funeral orations applauding Yasin and mentioning his virtues.

In his remarks, the governor of Qalqiliya denied Israeli claims that Yasin clashed with troops in the center of Qalqiliya.

“The martyr Yasin was an officer in the Palestinian general intelligence service. He was on his way home after work when an Israeli assassination squad surprised him with gunshots.”

"Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un" - "Surely we belong to Allah and to Him shall we return" - "May Allah magnify your reward, make better your solace and forgive your deceased". Be patient, Allah loves those who are patient. (Be patient and wait for the reward of Allah).

So which is it? Was Saleh Samir Abd al-Rahman Yasin " 'a known gunman' who had exchanged fire with Israeli forces before", an "assailant...who opened fire at Israeli soldiers", "a gun and ammunition... later found at the scene"? Was it a "successful overnight ambush", "preplanned," in which "a Palestinian who opened fire at Israeli soldiers was killed" when "soldiers retaliated towards the source of fire"? ...or was "the martyr Yasin...an officer in the Palestinian general intelligence service

(contd.) ...on his way home after work when an Israeli assassination squad surprised him with gunshots.” I wonder.
