GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian man was shot dead and five others were injured in a number of incidents across the Gaza Strip on Friday.

Odeh Jihad Hamad, 24, was shot dead, and an unidentified man was injured after Israeli soldiers opened fire near Beit Hanoun crossing in the northern Gaza Strip.

Gaza government spokeswoman Isra Almodallal confirmed the shooting, adding that they had approached the fence but details were still unclear.

In another incident, two others were shot and injured east of Khan Yunis, spokesman for the Gaza ministry of health Ashraf al-Qidra said. They were taken to the European hospital south of Khan Yunis with moderate injuries, he added.

Israeli forces also shot and injured two Palestinian men east of Jabaliya in the northern Gaza Strip earlier on Friday.

One of them, 23-year-old Mohammad Ayoub, was shot near the eastern cemetery and transferred to Kamal Odwan hospital, medical officials said.

The other injured Palestinian was not immediately identified.

An Israeli forces' statement said that "Palestinians caused damage to the northern security fence" and "fired a mortar shell" into Israel, adding that they "rioted and hurled rocks at soldiers in the northern Gaza Strip, and neared the fence in an attempt to enter Israel."

After "calling out to the Palestinians" without success, they used live fire.

"Several hits were identified," the statement added.

The Gaza Strip has been under a severe economic blockade imposed by the State of Israel since 2006.

Israeli forces frequently shoot at farmers and other civilians inside the Gaza Strip if they approach large swathes of land near the border that the Israeli military has deemed off-limits to Palestinians.

The "security buffer zone" extends between 500 meters and 1500 meters into the Strip, effectively turning local farms into no-go zones.

Correction: A previous version of this story identified the man who was shot dead by Israeli forces as Jihad Hamad. In fact, the man's name is Odeh Jihad Hamad.

.."O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient. And do not say about those who are killed in the way of Allah, "They are dead." Rather, they are alive, but you perceive [it] not. And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return".. Al Baqarah (2:153-156)

More motion activated video surveillance cameras need to be installed all along the Israel Gaza border. The cameras are no longer that expensive. Thousands need to be installed right near the border, shielded from sniper fire.

Almodallal confirmed that "they had approached the fence", along which Palestinians have previously shot and abducted Israeli forces, and
in this context - No further details still need to be clarified.

Civilized soldiers/policemen do not shoot to get mere "compliance" , they shoot when their immediate life is in danger. Mere non-compliance does not warrant one to be shot dead , to be executed.

To Johnny Benson #1: 'Another sad day for all ....I for one hate to see anyone die...when will the Arabs learn?....don't push the Israelis...' That is to say, don't come within range. Israelis are easy to get along with -- just run further off when they approach. As long as you're outside the range of their rifles, you're fine.

....at the end of it...the Arabs have to accept Israel...warts and all...the Israelis will never give the Arabs anything, until and unless they feel safe...and with all the turmoil in Arab countries and Iran....it looks dark indeed

3- The "Something that CAN NOT Give" is Israeli Self-Defense, so if Palestinians don't "give" on pushing the limits of Israeli Self-Defense, then NOTHING HAS TO GIVE. 5- Clearly the "biggest terrorist organization in the world" are Al-QAEDA, HEZBOLLAH, and IRAN, and Not states like Israel, that are forced to defend their civilians, from rocket-firing, bomb-placing, Islamic, Militant, Fanatics. And, 8- There are Neither lands to "farm", Nor "birds to watch" along the Security Fence !!!

Israelis acts are purposed to provoking a response to claim "Palestinians don't want Peace" as if the Sionist propagated falsehoods could change the context of war criminal occupation. Answer is: NO, Palestinians do not want Peace Agreement that contravenes International Law which is not worth the paper it is written Since Arafat left Lebanon aboard the Atlantis: Palestinian Resistance to date has been 100% successful. IDIOCY to believe that Israelis War Crimes could be legitimized.

To JoeUSA #9: 'Mere non-compliance does not warrant one to be shot dead , to be executed.' Au contraire. In the ol' Light unto the Nations, you don't have to do anything at all to be shot dead. Well, it helps to be not Jewish. That does seem to be a requirement.

To Mark of Lewiston #6: 'More motion activated video surveillance cameras need to be installed all along the Israel Gaza border. The cameras are no longer that expensive. Thousands need to be installed right near the border, shielded from sniper fire.' Wouldn't Israel prevent Hamas from importing them? And how are the Palestinians to install them, if they can't approach the border?

- The Gaza-Israel border is NOT civilized like the USA-Canada Border, where import taxes are the main concern, and instead - The primary concern for "civilized soldiers" at Gaza-Israel Border is being shot, abducted, hit by mortars, etc. and - In that context, sometimes "non-compliance Does warrant being shot" !!

#7 "Almodallal confirmed that "they had approached the fence", along which Palestinians have previously shot and abducted Israeli forces, and in this context - No further details still need to be clarified." Interesting logic, 'Tibi'...by which it follows West Bank Palestinians can shoot any Jew they see because settlers have "previously" attacked farmers, destroyed property and stabbed sheep (after "calling out" to them first, of course, and with "no further details" needing to be "clarified.")

Colin Wright: Mistake?? mistake was when Israel started its occupation in Palestine. that's the mistake. Maan reported that both were injured while my Palestinian friend in Gaza said the unidentified one dead by the shoots. his name Mohamed Salah Hamad, and he was 17 years old.
