BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Fatah central committee member Azzam al-Ahmad said on Friday that he will head to Lebanon to follow up the situation of Palestinian people in the Diaspora.

Al-Ahmad told Ma'an that he will meet a number of Lebanese officials and will check the situation of Palestinian people in Lebanon.

He will oversee the conference of Fatah movement which will take place in Lebanon next Sunday, al-Ahmad said.

There are an estimated 400,000 Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.

Between 700,000 and 800,000 Palestinians were expelled from their homes inside Israel during the 1948 conflict that led to the creation of the State of Israel, and today their descendants number around five million, spread across the world.
