RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- President Mahmoud Abbas said Tuesday that the Jordan Valley in the occupied West Bank was a "red line" for the Palestinians despite Israeli plans to annex it.

"If they do that, which we will not allow, we will see what future holds. This land is ours and will remain Palestinian land, and everybody should know that this is a red line that can’t be crossed,” Abbas said.

Israel's Channel Seven reported Sunday that the Ministerial Committee on Legislation voted in favor of a bill that would annex the entirety of the Jordan Valley.

Four ministers approved it and three opposed it, the report said.

Other Palestinian officials have blasted the move.

Also Tuesday, Abbas, who was speaking in Ramallah at a celebration for the release of 26 Palestinian prisoners, said sick prisoners would be released after 104 held before Oslo.

“We promise you that no final agreement will be reached unless all prisoners are at home. I would like to say for the record that they [the Israelis] delayed the release of those heroes for 24 hours and this is unacceptable,” Abbas told crowds who gathered in the presidential compound in Ramallah.

Abbas congratulated the prisoners and their families promising that such celebrations would continue. “There will be more groups of those heroes every now and then and in the near future.”

Hint: when you turn around and bump into the wall, that means you've run out of places to draw 'red lines.'

'...and everybody should know that this is a red line that can’t be crossed,” Abbas said...' That's why they're crossing it; to guard against peace. You fail to understand Israel.

Abbas and Obama must be from the same school of bombastic trite phrase usage.

So many lines his map is solid red. Unfortunately since Abbas has no intention of making historic compromises by recognizing the Jewish State of Israel or its legitimate security needs no two state solution will be possible.

what about Haifa and Yafa and all the occupied territories in 1948, all Palestine is a red line and no one is allowed to give up this right

4- Just because the PLO leadership does Not (& can Not, post-oslo) say so,
does Not mean that "the whole of Palestine is Not the red line", and that their intention remains To Destroy Israel Eventually (& Israel knows it too.)

7- The PLO never "had any intention of making historic compromises",
and they only signed the Oslo Accord, so they would be allowed to return,
so the One State (of Israel) and One Authority (of Palestine) will remain.

Why is it hard to understand that more annexations and further antagonizing of Palestinians is detrimental to Israeli security, about which Netanyahu keeps hammering, every chance he is cornered.
