GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Tens of thousands of Fatah supporters rallied in Gaza City on Tuesday to celebrate the 49th anniversary of the Palestinian nationalist movement's founding.
Supporters gathered in al-Jundi al-Majhoul square and waved Fatah flags and sang songs celebrating the political faction. Fireworks were also let off and Fatah leader Zakaria al-Agha lit a torch to mark the start of festivities.
Last year, Hamas allowed Fatah to hold anniversary events for the first time since it took power of the Gaza Strip in 2007, in an event attended by hundreds of thousands of people, according to Fatah leaders.
The Fatah movement has long been a cornerstone in the nationalist struggle for Palestinian independence and a dominant force within the PLO and Palestinian Authority.
