BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israel has asked the United States to consider a land swap deal that would give Palestine a section of land in the Triangle area adjacent to the Green Line in exchange for keeping settlement blocs in the West Bank, Israeli media said Wednesday.

Israeli daily Maariv reported that recent talks between the US and Israel have involved suggestions to cede to a future Palestinian state areas of the Triangle -- a cluster of Palestinian towns in Israel's Central District -- in order to include West Bank settlements within the boundaries of Israel.

The discussions were not an official part of the main talks between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Secretary of State John Kerry, the report said.

Israeli officials are reportedly exploring the logistics of the plan, including the question of what would happen to the current Triangle residents' Israeli citizenship.

The Triangle area is a concentration of Palestinian towns and villages in Israel adjacent to the Green Line. Approximately 300,000 Palestinian citizens of Israel live in the area.

Palestinians make up 20 percent of Israel's population.

Peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians were relaunched in July under the auspices of the United States after nearly three years of impasse.

Israel's government has announced the construction of thousands of housing units in illegal settlements since peace talks began.

More than 500,000 Israeli settlers live in settlements across the West Bank and East Jerusalem, in contravention of international law.

Why would the 300,000 Arabs want to keep their Israeli citizenship? What would they want to be part of a racist state when they can live under the warm embrace of the PA?

all Settlements on Palestinian Territory are illegally built by the occupiers that is a war crime, not even one inch of Pal?stine should named theirs. hopefully Abbas will not agree,if yes, he is the wrong President for the Palestinian people.

To Todd #3: 'Why would the 300,000 Arabs want to keep their Israeli citizenship?' This won't be a problem. Israel wouldn't care about the wishes of those of its citizens who aren't Jews. It is, after all, a racist state. Only the interests of Jews matter.

Colin you haven't a clue clearly. Arabs that live in Israel rush like mad to take citizenship any time it looks like they might come under PA control. They know which is the better deal. Under Israeli control they get good education for their rchildren, free medical treatment, social security, voting rights, equality for women, freedom of speech and of the press and more. They aren't stupid

"...the warm embrace of the PA" -- yes, the outfit led by abu mazen, whose term expired in 2009, but he decided he should rule indefinitely; that glorifies terrorists; that threw out PM salim fayyad, the one man dedicated to honest governance, because he was insufficiently corrupt; that was offered internationally supervised peace deals in 2000 and 2007 but wouldn't take "yes" for an answer. There's not 1 Israeli Arab who willingly would move from Israel to a Palestinian state. What a joke!

Todd, what is the alternative? To live under occupation, without any civil right, but with your natural resources exploited by your occupier? Susan, Abbas is not 'the President for the Palestinian people'. His mandate expired several years ago. Abbas and PNA are simply what Israel and the US need.

#6:Lilith:"haven't a clue"(Ironic).Well,pretend you're a POW,illegally occupied Jew?With an 3 options 1)Prisoner by Hitler's SS,thrown into a death camp?2)Held,en campe,by Nazism's facist proxy Italy(still punished,detained &transferred 4 labor/death("stupid")or 3)Unconditional freedom?PALESTINIAN people,overall,have more than 2 options(Israel or proxy-PA).The 3rd option is LEGAL freedom from illegal occupation/siege & their own "good","rights","security"&FREEDOM OF CHOICE!

Consultation with the 300, 000 residents might be an idea! Then there's dual nationality, or they could move those who wish remain Palestinian citizens of Israel into the Isreali settlements that Netanyahu is keen to keep building for Isreali people. On the otherhand those Palestinian citizens of Isreal who wish to change nationality to only Palestinian could be enabled to do so too. As its not part of the official talks, but US & Isreal are discussing it, maybe Mr Kerry should consult Pr. Abbas

Land swaps has always been PA policy but they have to be equitable. They can't overwhelmingly favour ONE side. In dunams, significance, disturbance to populations, they have to be WORTH it. The Israeli mentality is so much about a getting a GREAT deal by screwing the other guy, outsmarting the Palestinians with cunning and tenacity, they sort of forget it's a "swap". The "Triangle" near Haifa COULD become Palestine but not in EXCHANGE for East Jerusalem or Ariel. (What the Arab Israelis

(contd.) in those villages think about leaving the First World for the Third, I'm not sure.) The Triangle could conceivably be swapped for Gilo, say, or Ramot or more logically, an area as "remote" as the Triangle. That would be fair...if all agreed. (PS. As there's been NO any indication in 70 years of a word for "fair" in Israeli, nothing is likely to happen and the Israelis of the Triangle are safe, if you see it that way. FAIR land swaps, or FAIR anything, is not something Israel

A logical peace solution, one certainly preferable to the current situation.

To Lilith #6: 'Colin you haven't a clue clearly. Arabs that live in Israel rush like mad to take citizenship any time it looks like they might come under PA control. They know which is the better deal.' Of course. Who would want to be at the mercy of settlers and under the jackboot of the IDF? You might as well tell us how eager Jews were to sign up to work in Nazi factories.

17 ) Colin Wright / USA
04/01/2014 06:06
To Bubcuss #14: 'If this were to be put into a vote I think Palestinians would vote for Israelis' What significance that has is another matter. Care to put 'no Israel at all' on the ballot -- or do you think Palestinians actually like licking the Jewish boot for all eternity? I mean, we can see the Zionists like it, but...

To Todd #2: 'Why would the 300,000 Arabs want to keep their Israeli citizenship? What would they want to be part of a racist state when they can live under the warm embrace of the PA?' Kinda like a German Jew not wanting to get on that train for the East, huh? Some actually hid so that they could stay. See how much they loved Hitler?

"Arabs that live in Israel rush like mad to take citizenship any time it looks like they might come under PA control." (#6) "There's not 1 Israeli Arab who willingly would move from Israel to a Palestinian state." (#7) "If this were to be put into a vote I think Palestinians would vote for Israelis" (#14) This is like the dawn of a new meme. A new nugget of hasbara lovers of Zion can trot out: Arab Israelis have it so good they wouldn't want to live in Palestine. It's a classic spoiler,

(contd.) raising the spectre of Palestine as a failed state descending into chaos with repatriated Arabs longing for the stability of their old Israeli citizen status. It's devious and insinuating and designed to undermine Palestinian resolve, but all I see is the uniquely Israeli instinct to foment chaos, the state of confusion in which it has ALWAYS made its gains, to act out the old injunction to "tear down" and "destroy"...in this case, the State of Palestine before it has even begun.

- Everything is better in Israel (Jobs, Schools, Hospitals, Security, etc.) than it is in Palestine now (& probably ever), so Arab Israelis will want to keep their citizenship, but
- Israel's sole purpose for offering the "Land Swap" is to strip the citizenship from 300,000 Arab Israelis, that vote Anti-Security and Anti-Jewish, and regardless of the "Triangle area" becoming Palestine's
- Israel intends to keep the Settlements, East Jerusalem, and the Jordan valley too !!!
