5 injured in Gaza stadium collapse

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Five people were injured due to the partial collapse of Dura Stadium in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip on Saturday.

Gaza Strip Ministry of Health spokesman Ashraf Qudra told Ma'an that the five people wounded in the collapse were brought to Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Hospital.

Qudra said that the injuries were minor.

The collapse occurred immediately prior to the start of a match between two local soccer teams, Khidmat al-Nosirat and Shatia.

The Gaza Strip has been under a severe economic blockade imposed by Israel since 2006. The blockade severely limits imports and exports, including concrete.
