RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Palestinian activists on Thursday tried to prevent a joint Palestinian-Israeli organization from holding a conference at Ramallah's City Inn Hotel, witnesses said.

They said the activists attempted to break into the conference hall, but that Palestinian police stationed at the entrance intervened.

The protesters accused the conveners of normalization with the Israeli occupation.

"Normalization is treason," protesters' signs read. "Inside this hall sits Israeli officers who killed our children."

Israeli media reported that the Palestinian and Israeli delegations consisted of 15 members each, including former members of the Israeli army and Israeli settlers, in addition to Palestinian ex-prisoners, security officers, and businessmen.

The organization that held the conference is called Israeli-Palestinian Public Negotiating Congress in Ramallah & Jerusalem, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Police officers had originally denied journalists access to the conference hall at the request of the organizers of the conference, witnesses told Ma'an. However, journalists were eventually were allowed to go in and take photos.

The witnesses added that organizers of the conference, entitled "Ordinary People make Peace," obtained permission from the Palestinian Authority to hold the event in Ramallah.

Some one should tell the protesting Palestinians that peace requires normalization not rocks and intimidation. But then the protestors do not want peace only conflict. Unfortunately, all Palestinians will pay the price for Palestinians who think like these protestors opposing peace. Someone should remind the protestors of all of the opportunities the Palestinians have squandered for peace. Since conflict has not worked for the Palestinians, it is time for them to surrender to peace.

Same photos, but very different characterization of the two groups on JPOST. While both were termed activists, the group outside was said by JPOST to be "attacking" the hotel where the meeting was being held.

1- The only way to protect Palestine's interests is to Give Up Nothing, which means Palestine must continue WAITING for borders and real statehood, while Israel continues building Jewish and demolishing Arab, which DOES NOT PROTECT PALESTINIAN INTERESTS, so 2- GIVING UP WHAT JORDAN LOST to Israel in 1967, AND also WHAT 3rd generation Palestinian REFUGEES NEVER HAD (a home in Israel), MAY BE REQUIRED to protect Palestine's interests !!

Activists may not like it, but when all is said and done, Israel and Palestine will be neighbors. Perhaps it is time to get used to the concept.

As per usual, the haters club decided that peace with Jews is "treasonous" just like I'm sure some of the most radical of the settlers will feel the same way. The only difference is the jews # about 14 million people on earth whereas muslims # about a billion or so. So my question is: Why are so many muslims against making peace with a state that can advance the living conditions of all people s the middle east? Why not make peace and let the jews have East Jerusalem as their capital? why not?

There's no real dialogue possible between oppressed and oppressor. The imbalance of power at that table is comical enough to rank as a Monty Python sketch. You want peace? Stop the war on Palestinian existence.
