BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli media reported on Sunday that Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon had approved plans to allow construction material into the Gaza Strip in order to help repair buildings destroyed in December's severe winter storm.

Israeli news site Ynet said that the plan to allow 1,000 tons of cement and "construction materials" into the besieged coastal enclave followed coordination between Israeli officials, the Palestinian Authority, and officials from the international community.

The decision was taken by the Defense Minister and its implemented will be directed by the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, Eitan Dangot.

It was not clear when the transfer would take place.

An historic winter storm struck the Levant in December, leading to major flooding in the Gaza Strip and displacing 40,000 from their homes.

The Gaza Strip has been under a severe economic blockade imposed by Israel since 2006.

The blockade has severely limited the imports and exports of the Gaza Strip and has led to frequent humanitarian crises and hardship for Gazans.

The blockade has also limited recovery operations, as a lack of fuel and electricity have stymied officials' efforts to clean city streets and dry flooded areas.

Israel is allowing construction material into Gaza one month after the storm, after they made sure that the Gaza infrastructure was thoroughly destroy beyond repair. A thousand bags of cement won't undo the damage that was caused.

#1 Wel said. If it wasn't Palestine, "Israel" would react much faster (good PR etc) But now it is only Gaza, and "Israel" did help during the storm... by opening the dam twice, giving Gaza some more water. How sweet.

@1 and @2 But these are glamPals, and the world who support Hamas, expect to be able to want to destroy Israel and throw the Juice into the sea, but still expect trading rights, fuel, medical aid, bottle gas and emergency aid. This is despite their stated aims of not wanting peace with Israel, or to recognise her sovereignty as a Jewish State.

They use the cement to build bunkers. Hamas doesn't care one bit about its own people.

Gaza deserves nothing from Israel. Except disdain. Israelis are fool. Let Egypt care for Gaza the way it did after WW1.

[1] A "thousand bags of cement may not undo the flood damage", but it could substantially increase the number: - of bunkers for rocket launching terrorism of Israeli, and - of tunnels for smuggling weapons or murdering/abducting Israelis, so while Hamas insists that there can be * NO PEACE, Israel should continue providing * NO AID. [2] Israel owes Gaza less than nothing (other than Oslo promises), and the Netherlands would have done the same, in Israel's position at the time !!

Schizoid 'beneficient'Israel lets goods in to 1.8 MILLION civilian refugees. Then schizoid belligerent Israel,BOMBS Gaza's population/infrastructure AGAIN(ignored by Qatar,USG,EU,A/L).More token gifts while Israel's COLLECTIVE PUNISHMENT &WAR CRIMES continue? No token gifts! Just END Israel's OCCUPATION & BLOCKADE FIRST,permanently. Then Palestine can be autonomous &WORK,EAT,TRADE,REBUILD as it wishes. Not at the whim of fascist Israel.Stop ALL FUNDING to Nazi Israel. It's undeserved&CRIMINAL!

Very kind of Israel, every little helps. @1) Brian: What is your point, unhappy that Gaza wasn't sunk & totally destroyed after the floods. By the grace of God, the infrastructure & the people appear to still be very much intact. Hamas & other faction hero's did a good job on the ground, helping those who were trapped. I'm sure they'll also be able to make good use of the bags of cement Moshe Ya'alon has authorised for them.

Israel plays Hamas like a fish on a hook. Let out some line... Then reel it painfully in... then let out some line... Interesting.

Unbelievable that hamas can accept goods from a country who they do not believe exists. Hmmm, so maybe this non-existant country should rather send hamas non existing goods ??

#11 Or maybe this is yet more proof that the b.s. propaganda about Hamas' belief that Israel doesn't exist or rather wants to make it not exist....are lies and more b.s. and lies. How about that? #12 While I'm sue you'd like for them to do that, legally they CAN'T. There's this thing called the 4th Geneva Convention and they're legally bound to it whether they like it or not.
