Activists promised to continue their protests.
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Dozens of activists from a national committee to end the political division in the occupied territories held a demonstration in a Gaza City square on Tuesday.

Participants raised Palestinian flags and signs demanding that Fatah and Hamas end the division and achieve reconciliation after a split in 2006 which divided the West Bank and Gaza under rival governments.

Activist Huda Ulayyan told Ma'an that "we sent several messages to the world, Fatah, and Hamas emphasizing the importance of unity and ending the division."

"We have been demonstrating for a year and a half," she added.

Activists say they will continue their protests until the parties reconcile.

Despite years of talks and agreements, the rival factions have failed to form a unity government.
