BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- The speaker for the Danish parliament Mogens Lykketoft is set to visit the West Bank and Gaza next week, Israeli media reported on Thursday.

The website for the Israeli channel 10 reported that Lykketoft will not meet any Israeli officials during the visit, which caused outrage in Israel.

Israeli Knesset leader, Yuli Edelstein, criticized the Danish official for visiting Gaza and Ramallah and not meeting Israeli officials, Channel 10 reported.

The Gaza Strip has been under a severe economic blockade imposed by the State of Israel since 2006.

The blockade -- which is maintained with Egyptian support -- has severely limited the imports and exports of the Gaza Strip and has led to frequent humanitarian crises and hardship for Gazans.

For once, someone is not neglecting to visit Gaza. Highly refreshing ! It's an excellent idea to remind the world that all of Palestine yearns for a just peace.
It is also appropriate to remind the world that Gaza is entering its seventh year of an illegal, crippling blocade. It is high time that the issue of ending this blockade be highlighted as a matter needing urgent attention.

Good for him! A free person who believes in mutual freedom, should NEVER seek permission from racist oppressors,to enter an ILLEGALLY occupied land where native citizens are persecuted for wanting & chasing their FREEDOMS!MLK Jnr(paraphrasing)"never give in to oppressors else you recognize their false superiority"in any form.

Congratulations to the Danish Parliament leader! Israel's protest to his visit to Gaza just goes to prove Israel still occupies Gaza - Israel the oppressor, is jail warden of Gaza, the open air prison!

To Carol Scheller #1: 'It is also appropriate to remind the world that Gaza is entering its seventh year of an illegal, crippling blocade.' Even to call it a 'blockade' is to succumb to the Zionist narrative. The term implies that the condition is temporary, and the inhabitants of Gaza can somehow give up and cause the 'blockade' to end. (II) That's not really accurate. The 'blockade' is actually intended to be permanent. Israel will simply continue to bait the Palestinians inside as necessary so as to provoke a continued scattering of rockets. What Gaza is, is the first of the walled ghettos the Zionists intend to herd the Palestinian people into. There they will be kept, in the ongoing exercise in sadism that is the essence of Israel.

I grew up in Denmark, and Lykketoft has always been an outspoken defender of the Palestinian people, contrary to many of his colleagues in the Social-Democratic Party. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs when that former Shin Beth-guy Carmi-torture-is-an-okay-thing-Gillon became the Israeli ambassador to Denmark. But apparently Lykketoft is NOT going to Gaza: according to Danish media today, Israel has forbidden him access, and meetings have been cancelled. So he's only going to the West Bank

@#1 Carol Scheller: If your belief was true, there wouldnt have been a 500% increase in rockets, missiles and mortars fired at Israel AFTER Israel handed them everything but Air and Territorial Water Rights. The reality can be understood by any sane, rational adult who simply reads the HAMAS Charter. The Blockade is NOT illegal. Courts judge legality. Seeing as how the UN determined on its own that it is legal I doubt you have much ground to stand on.

Those anti Israel beautiful blond Scandinavians at the Danske Bank have also helped finance the North Korean Tanchon company that sold ballistic missiles to Iran. Last week, Danske Bank cut off banking business with Israel’s Bank Hapoalim on “legal and ethical grounds.” The missiles the bank financed were sold to the Iranian’s Shahid Hernmat Industrial Group.

I see there no shortage of disillusioned and brainwashed posters here. How is snubbing a democratic country in a sea of dictators and monarchs rational and just to you people. It makes sense to you to support terrorists like Hamas and fatah which call for another holocaust in the land of Israel not even 100 years since the last Jewish holocaust and call yourselves just people. Have fun reading your copies of the protocols of the elders of Zion your bias towards Jews is blatantly obvious
