JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces demolished a Palestinian home in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabal al-Mukabbir on Monday, the owner told Ma'an.

Israeli military and police officers blockaded the al-Jisr neighbor early Monday to allow bulldozers to move in and destroy the apartment building, owner Muhammad Hasan Mousa Jaafira said.

The building was constructed 18 years ago and Jaafira said he has been "trying in vain" to obtain a construction license from Israel's Jerusalem municipality.

The demolition took place without any prior warning, although in the past he was forced to pay a fine of 30,000 shekels ($8,516) for unlicensed construction.

Israel destroyed more than 663 Palestinian properties in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in 2013, displacing 1,101 people, according to UNOCHA.

Israel rarely grants Palestinians permits to build in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. It has demolished at least 27,000 Palestinian homes and structures since occupying the West Bank in 1967, according to the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions.

The internationally recognized Palestinian territories of which the West Bank and East Jerusalem form a part have been occupied by the Israeli military since 1967.

yes Joe it is disgusting, but they are actually carrying on with their programme started in 1947, of taking land from the Palestinians under the guise of . . well . . . whatever they can think of at the time. I suppose this time it is "non-permitted construction" next time it will be "required for military purposes" or "we are turning this into parkland for all the people" (except for non-Jews, of course) or, they can always fall back on the myth "God gave this land to us . . ."

It is a little slow in coming, but law enforcement and justice prevail, and law-breakers should stop building without permits !!

Whether Palestinians can, or "cannot defend themselves", and
whether this is, or is not "program/guise started in 1947", and
whether it seems "disgusting & cruel", EVERY STATE ENFORCES LAWS,
or soon none obey them, and anarchy becomes everyone's way of life !!
And,
Try to remember the truth leading up to this "disgusting & cruel" situation,
where it was the "owner's" Lawless, Bad Decision, or Desperate Gamble,
of BUILDING IN THE state's CAPITAL, WITHOUT A state building PERMIT.

Don't speak of Holocausts, pogroms, death camps, persecution O Israel, while you do the SAME to others non-Jewish,since WW2.What you do to beautiful Palestine, you do to us all! And Zionist-led,destructionist,Israel needs the world more than v.v. Stop the checks Obama. The 'special bond' is suicidal!

Once you understand that Israel does not give Palestinians permits to build , then and only then , comments about law enforcement become irrelevant.

Criminal activities against Palestinians by Israel are very usual. Boycotting Israel is slow but has some effect. International law seems to have no effect on Israel. I take it up with my MP and ask her to become a Friend of Palestine and ask her to take up injustices with the government of this country. I don't know if this will help.
