CAIRO (Ma'an) -- An Egyptian army officer was killed and 27 others were injured Thursday when a bus carrying soldiers flipped over in the Aswan district in southern Egypt.

Egyptian security sources told a Ma'an reporter that the bus driver lost control as a result of excessive speed.

The sources identified the officer as Omar Muhammad Muhammad. Of the 27 injured, several were seriously injured.

Ambulances evacuated the injured officers to hospitals in Aswan, and some were evacuated in helicopters to Cairo.
