BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli soldiers reportedly assaulted a Palestinian photojournalist while he was filming a documentary in the village of Wadi Fukin, southwest of Bethlehem on Saturday, family members told Ma'an.

Yousef Shakarnah was filming a documentary about the plight of locals who work inside Israel when soldiers assaulted him, causing him bruises and injuries all over his body.

Shakarna was subsequently transferred to al-Yamamah Hospital following the attack.

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemned the attack on Shakarna and accused Israeli occupation forces of "targeting journalists to try to conceal the truth."

The union said in a statement to Ma'an that it would file a formal complaint to the international federation of journalists about the incident.

An Israeli military spokesperson said they were looking into the incident.

Correction: An earlier version of this story identified the journalist who was assaulted as "Joseph Shakarna," but his name is in fact "Yousef Shakarnah."

The photo of the man laying on the table does not look like the same man in the photo at the bottom of the story. Look at his face.

How very fascist 'Brown/Black shirt' of Israel! The only thing missing from Israel is the Swastika!
Stay strong Joe,recover and FILM ON!
Your time is coming to an end Israel if you don't wake up to self-destructive Zionism. Israel can't go it alone & right now it doesn't have many allies left(understandably)! The world saw it all before,in WW2. Don't travel that "Road" Israel! It's a dead-end to hypocrisy! WAKE UP!

Horrible pictures of the injured journalist on other sites, wishing him a speedy recovery. Hope those who did it are brought to account. Journalists should be free to report the truth, without being harmed in this awful way.

Zionists will now defend, excuse, or otherwise justify this act.

Excuse me, but what the heck does this mean: "documentary about the plight of locals who work inside Israel"??? If they are working and have jobs, what is the "plight"? If they are unemployed, then I understand there is lots of distress, but this sounds more like a propaganda film and not a documentary.

he jay..i know the man and am good friends with his cousin... The story is real... i hope the army investigates and does not let the soldiers involved off easy. It is clear that he was not arrested in the end..so there is no case against him. Years ago a relative of his was beaten up when walking home from our settlement.. also by soldiers. He complained and since then has never been granted a permit to visit israel.

Wadday think, Colin....isn't it just like you defending, excusing and justifying your continued occupation of native American nations? Of course you do. You try to brush off the truth but you can't avoid it. You white American occupiers are nothing more than successful settlers living on stolen lands. It's a historic fact. The only way to erase your sins, Colin, is to hand control of America back to the natives and let them determine your fate. I think they'll send you packing.

Very upset to see this has happened. I hope that the military looks into this and punishes those responsible.

@Brian Cohen, what is it you doubt regarding the article? Myron Joshua, has just been confirming the attacks made by the army of illegal occupier and colonialist israhell to a journalist WHO was doing his job in the making a documentary of the evil appartheid of israhell. You should be asking your brainwashed zioz brain why? Journalist Yousef Shakarnah, was in the making of his film reveiling, the injustice made to the palestinians & Palestine by illegal colonialist & occupier zionist Israel

Dear Brian Cohen, "documentary about the plight of locals who work inside Israel": If they work,it's not always legal. And even when it's legal, soldiers on the barriers don't make it easy for Palestinians to get to their work in Israel. You'd know the exact answer if the film was finished. Regarding what you wrote to Colin, it looks like you deeply understand that Israelis have stolen a land from Palestinians (the way "white Americans" stole from the natives). So what are you exactly defending?

To Jay #1: 'The photo of the man laying on the table does not look like the same man in the photo at the bottom of the story. Look at his face.' As I understand it, the Israelis made some adjustments. That's the point.

Get well soon, Yousef. I had the pleasure to meet you at a journalism conference in Belgium. You were eager to get out there and use your camera to tell stories. History is filled with examples where a majority can be wrong. Get well soon, Yousef. Be a journalist and report on the oppression and the biggest open air prison on earth.
