TABA, Egypt (Ma'an) -- Four civilians were killed on Sunday and 29 others were injured after a roadside bomb was detonated targeting a bus carrying civilians near the Taba checkpoint in the Sinai Peninsula close to the border with Israel, medical sources said.

Sinai ambulance services director Khalid Abu Hashem told Ma'an that two South Korean civilians, an Egyptian tour guide, and an Egyptian bus driver were killed while 29 others were injured as a result of the attack.

He added that the blast occurred as a tourist bus was passing the site where a bomb had been timed to detonate.

Health ministry spokesman Ahmed Kamel told AFP that four people were killed in the explosion and 13 were injured.

An Egyptian military official said that the explosion occurred 50 meters from the Hilton Hotel in Taba, and was detonated remotely from a mobile phone.

The official said that at the time of the explosion the bus was carrying 33 tourists, an Egyptian driver, and an Egyptian tour guide.

The bus was coming from Cairo after having passed through Saint Catherine, and was on its way to Taba prior to continuing on to the southern resort city of Eilat in Israel, he added.

The official accused the Wahhabi militant group of Ansar Bait al-Maqdis of involvement in the blast in Taba, adding that recently they had failed to carry out attacks in Sinai due to the heavy security measures.

An Egyptian security source told Ma'an that helicopters were preparing to take the injured to Cairo hospitals.

A Ma'an reporter said that security forces had arrived at the scene, and had closed the entrances and exits of the city.

A spokesman for the Israeli ambulance services said that Israeli ambulances had headed to the border area following the blast to assist in evacuating the injured.

The Sinai peninsula has been wracked by rising instability and almost daily attacks since a July 3 coup by the Egyptian military which unseated then-president Mohammad Morsi.

The attacks have been claimed by Wahhabi militant groups including Ansar Bait al-Maqdis, who have taken advantage of the lawlessness in the region to target government forces and civilian targets across Egypt.

The anti-Israel crowd should support this, because it was aimed at tourists who were going to the Zionist entity. We know that any human being that has any normal connection to Israel is a legitimate target for "resistance" and can be killed within international laws. This is a legal killing of criminals who are were helping Israel This is the Palestinian explanation that is accepted by all pro-Palestinians. This is how Palestinians justify killing anybody in Israel - foreigners included.

@Brian Cohen - that is what zionists like you want the world to believe being for the Freedom of Palestine is about. Those are radicals that do not represent the egyptian people nor the palestinian cause. Go get a life.

I wonder why palestinians don't offer to help since in the eyes of the world they are angels. But it proves again palestinians are inhuman criminals that are responsible for this act and all other terrorists acts in the world

Sincere condolences to the families of those killed & prayers for those who have been injured in this awful event. #2 - Brian Cohen/Israel, your post is offensive, even for you. Most anti Zionists would not agree 'resistance against occupation' involves killing tourists from other countries &/or their Egyptian driver/guide just because they have decided to enter Israel. These people are neither legitimate targets, nor is such atrocity legal under Intl Law. These acts are unjustifiable & crminal.

El Sisi, It is time to wall off Sinai like Gaza. Then, send in the drones. Israel has the best drones but a little pricey.

To Brian Cohen #1: 'The anti-Israel crowd should support this, because it was aimed at tourists who were going to the Zionist entity.' Your logic here is deficient. Merely because you enjoy reading about women, infants, etc being maimed and killed by Israel, the reverse doesn't apply. You see, while Israel is supported by moral monsters such as yourself, those who oppose Israel don't therefore fall into the same category.

To j #4: 'But it proves again palestinians are inhuman criminals that are responsible for this act ' (I) Never mind that the act didn't occur in Palestine, there's no indication that Palestinians committed it, and in fact it is distinctly unlikely that Palestinians committed it. Blame them anyway!

To j #4: 'it proves again palestinians are inhuman criminals'(II). ...but I'm curious about something. If in fact Palestinians had committed the act, you assert this demonstrates that Palestinians in general are inhuman criminals. The IDF HAS committed such acts. Does it follow that Jews in general are inhuman criminals?

The Zionists really surpassed themselves in their responses to this one. I'm not sure whether I feel more contempt, or more disgust. It's a close call...

The blame for all the unrest in the levant and Africa lies with the Muslim extremists...pure and simple...when they are not killing themselves they are killing innocents..until and when the peaceful Muslims take the pulpits and propaganda machines back...there will never be peace ...never...problem lies with extremes in the political bodies ...whether royals..generals..or dictators..or extreme crazies there's no room for moderates....

@11 The Israeli's response, was to send ambulances immediately, to evacuate the critically injured from the terrorist's bomb to Eilat. So that they would not be a burden on Taba, Nuweiba, Dahab, and Sharm el Sheik's poor basic and inappropriate medical facilities.
