RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- West Bank residents consume around two billion shekels worth of cigarettes annually, according the PA tax and customs department.

Department director Luay al-Hanash said in a press conference in the Ministry of the Economy in Ramallah that there is currently no decision to reduce the price of cigarettes, but that prices will be reduced in the West Bank if they are reduced in Israel.

Al-Hanash added that there is a committee to study allowing locally manufactured tobacco to be licensed, and monitor its local plantations. He added that samples of it have been examined and results showed it contained an "unhealthy, flammable material."

The biggest problem here is that the PA Ministry of Economy is handling this situation in order to reduce the cost of cigarettes and put them in the hands of more Palestinians despite the fact that cigarettes have been 100% proven to cause serious health problems including CANCER. This SHOULD be a problem for the PA Ministry of Health instead. It should be talked as a healthcare concern, not an economic concern. Instead of trying to get cigarettes in people's hands educate them to quite smoking.

Zionists will be happy! They have an ally in their ethnic cleansing endeavors against Palestinian people - cigarettes!
