RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- West Bank residents consume around two billion shekels worth of cigarettes annually, according the PA tax and customs department.
Department director Luay al-Hanash said in a press conference in the Ministry of the Economy in Ramallah that there is currently no decision to reduce the price of cigarettes, but that prices will be reduced in the West Bank if they are reduced in Israel.
Al-Hanash added that there is a committee to study allowing locally manufactured tobacco to be licensed, and monitor its local plantations. He added that samples of it have been examined and results showed it contained an "unhealthy, flammable material."
