JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Protesters marched through the streets of Jerusalem on Saturday to condemn the deaths of two Palestinians who have died at the hands of Israeli forces in the last week.

The protest began at Damascus Gate, where Israeli police on horseback immediately tried to disperse the demonstration, organizers said.

Participants marched towards Herod's Gate and Salah al-Din street while chanting slogans to commemorate the dead.

The march was held in memory of Jihad Abd al-Rahman al-Taweel, who died on Tuesday weeks after being assaulted by prison guards, and Muatazz Washaha, a young man killed after Israeli forces fired a shell at his home during an arrest raid on Thursday in Birzeit.

After reaching Salah al-Din street police forces on horseback chased protesters towards al-Zahra street.

Israeli police beat protesters, and assaulted journalists who were on the scene, preventing them from filming, organizers said.

Demonstrators managed to return to Damascus Gate, and continued on to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, despite a heavy military presence at the gates of the compound.

An Israeli police spokesperson could not be reached for comment.

Oh Allah ! Please visit Your Mighty Wrath upon those who oppress and abuse and beat and torture and kill and maim Your Servants... please return their evil actions and their wicked behavior right back onto them. Please Lord, let them taste Your Vengeance... in this life, and on the Day Of Retribution! Please Lord, answer the pleas for Your Help in this life from Your Servants; and please answer my pleas for Your Help on their behalf. ?Ameen? ~?~

Peaceful protesters marching against the brutality of occupation, remembering those whose lives have been cut short with such wilful disregard. Brave journalists whose only aim is to get the truth out to the world. All savagely attacked and chased by IOF's horseback. If only the world wasn't prevented from seeing what happens to them day after day.

Careful you don't get what you pray for, Lavette - you are the evil and wicked colonical oppressor of the native Americans. I assume that you want the same retribution for your evil actions visited upon your own head in this life, right? Lavette - you beat and tortured and committed genocide against the natives, then pushed them on to reservations. That's what you deserve from Allah then, by your logic. Prepare to meet your maker?

OMG Brian - you're so predictable, deflecting your own guilt onto everone else - Americans, Australians, French etc. You never miss an opportunity do you? Haven't heard your rant about us Brits yet - go ahead - fill your boots...

A protest march from Damascus Gate to Herod's Gate, and up Salah al-Din street to al-Zahra street would be noisy but peaceful. It's ENTIRELY in East Jerusalem through a busy Arab neighbourhood and nothing would be damaged or vandalised and no-one attacked. The protest of the latest killings would be registered in a non-violent way. So why the presence of mounted police and soldiers to break it up, beating protesters and assaulting journalists, if not to make sure it ultimately TURNED violent?
