GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The military wing of Hamas said on Saturday evening that a field commander was killed in an accidental "internal explosion" in the Hashashin neighborhood of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, while medical sources said that nine others were wounded.

The Qassam Brigades said that Ibrahim Nagib al-Ghoul, 30, was killed in the explosion.

A spokesman for the Gaza Strip Ministry of Health Ashraf al-Qidra said that the majority of the nine individuals wounded in the explosion were suffering from serious injuries.

Al-Qidra said that five of the wounded were taken to Abu Yousef al-Najjar Hospital in Rafah, while the four others were transferred to the European Gaza Hospital.

No details of the cause of the explosion were released.

So sad that there is the necessity for young men to lose life and limb doing what the United Nations SHOULD be doing - defending their rights.

Sincere condolences to his family & friends who are left bereaved. I agree with comment from "Bemused" My prayers go out to all the injured and bereaved & (please forgive me for saying it at this very sensitive time) I also pray for the legal armed resistance to find a way to make a unilateral ceasefire, regardless of personal views on legal armed struggle versus non-violent resistance, this could be a very good tactical move at this time & I believe the entire planet would nowsupport Gaza.

So sad that ignorant kiwis can't tell the difference between defending rights and war crimes. Hamas is a terrorist organization that commits war crimes, crimes against humanity and suppresses the rights of Palestinians in Gaza. The UN should get rid of Hamas to defend Palestinian rights. Or maybe you like and want more honour killings, arrests of journalists, beating of Christians, killing of foreign diplomats and of course, shooting thousands of rockets and mortars at zionist civilians. Kiwis.

You are seriously delusional, where: -1- The United Nations defends the rights of Nobody, unless you consider words and letters a real defense, and -2- The United Nations condemns such young men, for their terrorism a war-crimes, and -3- The United Nations, EU, US, Russia Quartet all say, that THE ONLY SOLUTION IS NEGOTIATIONS.

Very sad, another life lost & nine seriously injured, now more families grieve. How much longer must these young men give up their lives to the resistance movement, before the international community wakes up & does something to end the suffering of the Palestinians. Why does the UN not act. Condolences to the family.

2,6 an awful lot of this Gaza suffering is self-inflicted, courtesy of Hamas. Wake up and smell reality.

@3) Well said Adam, I think virtually everyone supports Gaza now, and would love to see a just resolution to the issues pertaining to Gaza, including a unilateral ceasefire & a lifting of the blockade. I too wish to offer condolences to the family & hope the injured make a full recovery. I find Brain Cohen's comments (4) rather exaggerated & tiresome, although as he so fervently supports the Zionist regime, such comments are to be expected I suppose.
