RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Five Palestinians were injured early Tuesday during clashes with Israeli soldiers north of Ramallah, witnesses and medics said.
After Israeli forces raided al-Jalazun refugee camp, youths hurled stones towards them and soldiers fired back live ammunition and rubber-coated steel bullets, locals told Ma'an.
Jamil Bayyari, 16, was hit in the head by a rubber-coated steel bullet, while Qahir Farraj was hit by a live bullet in his abdomen and Abd al-Rahman Tarifi was hit in the stomach by a rubber-coated steel bullet, medics said.
Two others were injured, witnesses said, without elaborating.
Locals told Ma'an that Israeli forces were in al-Jalazun camp in response to reports that Palestinians fired gunshots at a residential building in the illegal Israeli settlement of Beit El.
A spokeswoman for the Israeli army confirmed the clashes in al-Jalazun camp, but denied that the soldiers used live bullets.
Israeli troops used "riot-dispersal means" during the clashes, but "no live fire," the spokeswoman said.
She said she was unfamiliar with reports of Beit El coming under fire.
Hebrew-language daily Maariv reported on its website Monday that a bullet hit the front of a building in the settlement.
The military wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility for the shooting.
Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades published a statement on Facebook saying its gunmen opened fire at Beit El settlement.
The group said the shooting was a response to the "occupation's crimes" against the Palestinian people.
"We swear by the blood of Muatazz Washaha and Saji Darwish that the occupation's crimes will not go unpunished. Both the Zionist occupation and its settlers will pay a heavy toll for the crimes they commit against the Palestinian people," the Facebook statement said.
Israeli soldiers shot and killed 18-year-old Saji Darwish near Ramallah late Monday, after he allegedly threw stones at Israeli vehicles.
Earlier Monday, Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian-Jordanian judge at the Allenby Bridge crossing with Jordan.
Additionally, on Feb. 27, Israeli military forces shot killed 24-year-old PFLP activist Muatazz Washaha on after opening fire on a property in Birzeit.
The PFLP vowed that it would respond to attack.
